  • Altior As Brave As He Is Brilliant
THURSDAY, 14 MARCH 2019 QUORTO INJURED, GUINEAS OFF THE TABLE ALTIOR AS BRAVE Group 1 winner Quorto (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) has sustained an AS HE IS BRILLIANT injury in Dubai where he was wintering and will miss the G1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas, Godolphin announced on Wednesday morning. The Godolphin homebred >TDN Rising Star= is undefeated in three starts to date, including the July 14 G2 Superlative S. and the Sept. 16 G1 National S. when last seen. He was one of the leading fancies for the first British Classic of the season, which will take place over Newmarket=s Rowley Mile on May 4. AUnfortunately Quorto has suffered a soft tissue injury in training in Dubai which will mean he will have to miss the 2000 Guineas,@ said trainer Charlie Appleby. "It's a real shame as we had high hopes for him this year. We'll know more when he's scanned for a second time in a couple of weeks. It's too early to say when he could be back in action but we've been here before with these injuries and we'll see how he recovers." Altior & Nico de Boinville | Racing Post by Emma Berry CHELTENHAM, UKCIt takes a great horse to win championship races, but it takes a true champion to fight his way back for glory just as it looks as if he is beaten. At Cheltenham on Wednesday, the remarkable Altior (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}) claimed not just his second G1 Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase but his fourth win at the Festival and his 18th consecutive victory to equal the winning streak of one of the track's great heroes, Big Buck's (Fr) (Cadoudal {Fr}).

  • Newsletter 2021 Season
Newsletter 2021 Season “Dartmouth” by Grace. THE SHADE OAK NEWSLETTER: 2021 SEASON When Emma announced I was going into ‘Lockdown’ at the end of March I must admit I thought it was a little extreme, as I’m not normally locked away to produce the annual Shade Oak Newsletter until late November. However, I was swiftly made aware that this was a different kind of lockdown that has changed all our lives to a greater or lesser extent. Even when the eagerly- anticipated vaccines and improved treatments are available, its effects on the economy will be significant, as will its impact on the fortunes of horse breeders of all nations. So, much though I would like to pen my usual few words about stallions, mares, foals and the joys of breeding NH horses, before rushing outside to leap on my trusty steed, Sir Francis, to charge across huge hedges and daunting ditches, it just can’t be that easy this year. Instead, I must give whatever insights I can conjure up (sometimes I really don’t know how I do it!) into the implications of several new factors on NH breeding in this country - namely Covid, Brexit and the Great British Bonus. In doing this I will weave an ingenious thread of storyline, so I’m told, that brings them all together such that you will surely recognise not only the wisdom of continuing to produce NH horses but also of using British-based stallions located at - yes, you’re on the ball today - Shade Oak Stud! Here we go… THE EFFECTS OF COVID ON THOROUGHBRED BREEDING: WHY KEEP GOING? Covid almost had a drastic effect on the 2020 covering season falls was not hard to see… when the veterinary authorities initially decreed that vets could pay only emergency visits to studs; and routine scanning of From 2007 to 2009 the aggregate at Tattersalls November Foal mares for covering, post-cover washouts and pregnancy scans Sale fell by 64%, meaning a reduction of almost 10 million did not constitute emergencies.

  • Clearance Rate Improves As Obs March Concludes
THURSDAY, MARCH 14, 2019 He continued, AIn 2018, we sold 87 horses for equal to or less CLEARANCE RATE than $50,000 and we sold 117 this year [at that level]. We were happy to see that--horses got sold at all levels. On the other end, IMPROVES AS OBS MARCH we had two horses that brought over $800,000 and this year we had six, so there was growth on both ends. We felt really good CONCLUDES about that.@ Year-to-year comparisons are somewhat inexact due to last year=s statistics factoring in post-sale transactions further past the conclusion of the sale and the 2019 stats subject to change for the same reason, but the cumulative average and median were both down for 2019. A large factor in the dips, however, was a much-improved clearance rate. Based on current figures, the average dropped 12.6% to $143,762 from $164,494 and the median dipped 23.8% from $105,000 to $80,000, but the RNA rate this time around was just 23.1% compared to 29.2% 12 months ago and can only drop further after additional post-sale transactions are recorded. SUPPLEMENT TO THE RACING CALENDAR MAY 25th 2017 1 ....................................................................................................................................................................................................... ANGLO-IRISH JUMP CLASSIFICATIONS 2016-2017 This is the eighteenth full Anglo-Irish Jump Classification. It classifies the best steeplechasers and hurdlers that were trained in either Britain or Ireland during the 2016-2017 season, or in France if that performance was achieved in Britain or Ireland. It is not a handicap but a retrospective measurement of best sustainable performances during the recent season so there may be differences from current handicap marks. The classifications are for all chasers and hurdlers down to a rating of 140. The steeplechasers are divided into distance categories of 2 miles to 2 miles 2.5 furlongs, 2 miles 3 furlongs to 2 miles 6.5 furlongs and 2 miles 7 furlongs plus. They are included in the list in which the handicappers believe they have put up their best performance. The hurdle categories are similar except that they are divided into two distances of 2 miles to 2 miles 2.5 furlongs and 2 miles 3 furlongs plus. There is a separate classification identifying Novices rated 140 and above. Juvenile Hurdlers are included in the Novice section. Horses trained in Ireland have * appended after their name. Horses trained in France but have a performance at 140+ in Great Britain or Ireland have ** appended after their name. Mares are in italics. The ratings were agreed
