Most important are the academic rules and regulations - what Student Life students do in order to earn their degrees. In addition to descriptions of courses and requirements for each major, there is a full explanation of the goals of general education, Financial Information the academic core of the undergraduate experience. Directory of Personnel The catalog also includes Averett's mission, a short introduction to the University, and information about admission, student life, finances and financial aid, a map, and an University Calendar academic calendar. Catalog Index Although the catalog states many rules, what makes our community is not rules but people. Central to our purpose are the people in the faculty who teach, advise, and inspire. They are listed in the catalog, and as you can see from the summaries of their degrees they have prepared through study at fine colleges and universities. They bring their special gifts to their work with students, which is why a degree from Averett is so worthwhile. For almost one hundred and fifty years it has operated continuously, though undergoing several name Student Life changes. In 1910 the College became affiliated with the Baptist General Association of Virginia. The name Averett was given to the College by the Board of Trustees in 1917. Financial Information It was also in 1917 that the College received, from the Virginia State Board of Education, its first accreditation as a junior college. The College was accredited by the Southern Directory of Personnel Association of Colleges and Schools in 1928 and by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York in 1932. In the fall of 1969, Averett undertook a major University Calendar reorientation of its program by adding a four-year baccalaureate degree program and making the College co-educational. Since that time, Averett has experienced unusual Catalog Index growth and is emerging as one of the outstanding private senior colleges in Virginia. Upon the graduation of its first baccalaureate class in spring, 1971, Averett received senior college approval from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia and accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. In 1978 the College began offering courses leading to the Master of Education degree. Accreditation at the master's level was received in 1981. In the fall of 1983 the College began offering courses leading to the Master of Business Administration degree. The program was approved by the State Council of Higher Education of Virginia in the spring of 1984 and received accreditation from the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1986. On July 1, 2001, Averett College officially became Averett University, entering another chapter in the institution's history. In adopting the name, Averett University, the Board of Trustees affirmed Averett's position as an innovative, small, private university that gives students the individual attention traditionally associated with small liberal arts colleges along with the advantages found at comprehensive universities. Averett will remain true to its heritage as an institution where teaching and learning come first. Averett will continue to stress individual attention to student needs and learning, in an atmosphere where both academic and religious freedom are valued. Recognizing its heritage as a liberal arts institution, Averett University continues to place primary emphasis on undergraduate curricula blending the liberal arts and sciences with professional preparation and graduate study.     2019-20 Application for Participation in the Two-Year College Transfer Grant Program — IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS — Established in 2007, the Two-Year College Transfer Grant Program (CTG) provides an incentive for students to first complete an associate degree at a Virginia public two-year college before transferring to a participating Virginia four- year college or university as a means to reduce the overall cost towards completing a bachelor’s degree. In addition to paying lower tuition charges for their freshman and sophomore years while attending a two-year college, qualifying students may also receive a CTG award once they transfer to the participating four-year institution. To be eligible, the student must (subject to Code of Virginia §§23.1-623-727 and 8VAC 40-150): Be a first-time entering freshman (at any institution) no earlier than fall 2007. Be an undergraduate in-state student (Virginia domicile). Meet selective service requirements. Have received an associate degree at a Virginia two-year public institution. Have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 for the associate degree. Enroll full-time into a Virginia four-year public college or university or a Virginia four-year private nonprofit college or university by the fall or spring immediately following completion of an associate degree (see list of participating institutions at the bottom of the next page). Enroll into a degree program that is not for religious training or theological education. Have applied for financial aid by completing the federal Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the four-year institution’s published deadline.

It also provides details on the eligibility requirements, application deadlines, and criteria for award distributions. Please read this document carefully. BACKGROUND INFORMATION The Commonwealth of Virginia provides VTAG as a non need-based grant for V irginia residents attending a participating Virginia private college or university. While the maximum award is authorized each biennium, the amount is not guaranteed and can vary annually. The amount of each academic year’s award is determined by the available funding and the total number of eligible applicants. If funding is insuffcient to fully award all students, it is possible that the spring award will be adjusted and some students will receive no award. The college fnancial aid offce will have the most current information about the expected maximum award. See below for the categories and prioritization of awards. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS Students must meet all the eligibility requirements set forth by the General Assembly, Sections 23.1-628 through 635 of the Code of Virginia and in the VTAG regulations, 8 VAC 40-71. Look under the tab About Us and find the tab entitled ADOPT A BRONCO. Complete the online form and submit it no later than June 6, 2016. If you would prefer, you can complete the attached form and submit it to Gail Wade at the FCPS Central Services Office, 205 West Second Avenue, Franklin, VA 23851, no later than June 6, 2016. BRONCO COACHES will be invited to a breakfast on June 15, 2016 to meet the Bronco Seniors that they will be adopting.
