Goodbye from Roslyn Some of my Basketball Memories I leave you with some of my basketball memories, and After almost four years working at Basketball New Zealand hopes for the future this will be my final newsletter. I leave in 9 days to do my OE which includes visiting USA, Europe, UK and Asia and specialised belly dance training! Aside from work I am a professional dancer. During my time here I have been fortunate enough to have been part of the U19 World Championships, assisting with the Egyptian and Lithuanian teams in Wellington and I also volunteered at the championship in Auckland. I am lucky to L: Holding the U19 Mens World Champ USA Gold Medal with the USA have been to three NBL finals and a highlight was Video Technician witnessing the Tall Blacks beat Australia! R: Little me sitting with the U19 French basketball team My first experience with Basketball New Zealand was in 2006 when I did video technician work for Leonard King through the NZ Academy of Sport. During this time I went to the “All New Zealand Camp” in 2006 where I met many of our top coaches and young athletes. I was still studying for my degree at this stage. When I finished university a part time role came up in Basketball New Zealand which I applied for. I obtained the position which eventually it L: Picture with FIBA President Bob Elphinston became my full time current position. R: Picture with international FIBA referees For the last three years or so The Community Newsletter has been ‘my baby”. While the writing and publishing has taken a lot of effort and dedication the feedback I have received has made the hard work worthwhile. I have had immense personal satisfaction that so many people have enjoyed reading it. In fact it has been quite painful having to hand the reins over! Nick Mills Jr from the NBL has kindly agreed to keep the newsletter going, for this I am grateful. I hope he will enjoy producing this as much I as I have. I have met some amazing people through Basketball, many L: Picture with Pero Cameron of whom have dedicated their life to this sport. It has been a R: Picture with Nenad Vucinic humbling experience meeting people who have given so freely of their time and resources. It is really inspiring to meet so many passionate and committed volunteers and our community should be so grateful for the huge workload they shoulder. I have been privileged to watch our basketballers grow, especially the athletes that I met at the 2006 All New Zealand Camp. Many of those athletes now have scholarships playing in USA and are playing in the NBL! At times I have felt like a proud mum when I have seen what these athletes have managed to achieve! I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody in The Community L: 167cm tall Roslyn with the tallest athlete at the U19 Mens Basketball that has made me feel part of this awesome Basketball Championship (2.17cm) R: Roslyn dancing!
