Emerald Ash Borer Emerald ash borer is a destructive wood boring insect that prefers ash tree species as its host. Repeated life cycles of this insect will eventually kill the tree within a few years of initial infestation. King is actively monitoring all Township-owned ash trees in order to

Smoke alarms should already be in place when you move in to your new home. However, it is your responsibility to maintain them. Carbon Monoxide (CO) Carbon monoxide is an odourless, colourless gas which is extremely toxic. It is produced by the incomplete combustion of fuels such as natural gas, propane, heating oil, kerosene, coal, charcoal, gasoline and wood. For example, furnaces, boilers, room heaters, hot water heaters, stoves, grills and any gasoline engine (i.e. lawn mower).

The Ontario Building Code requires that all homes and residential buildings built after August 2001 have a CO alarm installed. Detectors should be placed in close proximity to bedrooms. The Regional Municipality of York administers a Tax Deferral Program for seniors over 65 years of age, low-income seniors, or low-income disable persons. You must own your principal residence in York Region and must be the owner of the property on January 1st of the taxation year for which the deferral has been requested. All deferred taxes must be repaid in full prior to transfer of title on sale of the subject property.

To determine your eligibility for participation in a property tax deferral program, please contact the Finance Department at the Township of King 905-833-5321 (ext. 4572). Applications must be received no later than September 30th of the taxation year for which you are requesting a deferral of property taxes.

Snow Clearing The Township will remove snow from roads when severe accumulations affect two-way traffic and the ability for on-street parking. This may take several days after accumulations occur and is performed on a priority basis. First priority is given to commercial areas and areas where safety is a concern.

Residents are reminded to avoid parking on the street so that snowplowing and snow removal crews can operate effectively.

Leaves can be mulched and left on your lawn (simply by running your lawn mower over them two or three times)—they can be added in thin layers to your composting bin, dug directly into the garden, or composted in a separate bin or pile.
