Each day during HOPE Week, the Yankees reach out to an individual, family or organization worthy of recognition and support. Whenever possible, the Yankees will attempt to personally connect with individuals in the settings of their greatest successes at locations that honor the spirit of their noble endeavors. All outreach in the community ultimately culminates with recognition at Yankee Stadium during a Yankees game. HOPE Week is about people helping people. The one thing everybody has—no matter their background or financial situation—is time. By involving every one of our players and coaches, along with Manager Aaron Boone, General Manager Brian Cashman, our minor league affiliates and front office staff, we are sending the message that everyone can give of themselves to make their community a better place. Equally significant during HOPE Week is garnering publicity for the highlighted causes and organizations. The greatest challenge facing many not-for-profits is generating interest, awareness and funding for their missions. The Yankees encourage all their fans to get involved … Give HOPE! ORGANIZATIONAL INITIATIVE The Yankees are proud to announce that for the sixth consecutive year, each of their U.S.-based affiliates will hold their own HOPE Weeks, truly making this initiative one that the entire organization stands behind in words and in action. At the conclusion of each of the last eight years of HOPE Week (2010-17), the Yankees were honored with the President’s Volunteer Service Award, given “in recognition and appreciation of commitment to strengthening the Nation and for making a difference through volunteer service.” The award was bestowed by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation in conjunction with the Corporation for National and Community Service. Each of this year’s HOPE Week honorees will also receive the award. HOPE WEEK RECAPS (Photo galleries at www.hopeweek.com) MONDAY: The New York Yankees kicked off 2018 HOPE Week on Monday by honoring the Muddy Puddles Project. It was inspired by 5-year old Ty Campbell, a little boy who loved the children’s cartoon Peppa Pig throughout his fight with cancer. His biggest dream was to jump in muddy puddles just like his animated hero. Sadly, he lost his battle with the disease, but his mother, Cindy, and father, Louis, started the Ty Louis Campbell Foundation and Muddy Puddles Project. Their mission is to inspire parents to embrace the simple joys of kids being kids while raising much-needed attention and funding for pediatric cancer research. HOPE Week Surprise: Manager Aaron Boone, Brett Gardner, Sonny Gray, Didi Gregorius, Bench Coach Josh Bard and NYCFC Goalkeeper Brad Stuver surprised Cindy and Louis Campbell along with over 40 other families who have been affected by cancer at Mohawk Day Camp in White Plains as the group honored Ty by engaging in kid-inspired activities, including playing in a mud pit, water fights, “color-runs” and “pie-face.”

TUESDAY: Cassidy Warner, a 10-year-old Scranton, Pennsylvania fourth-grader exhibited bravery beyond her years this March, posting a video on Facebook detailing her struggles with being bullied. When her story came to the attention of the Yankees, the team offered her their support and let the world know that they are against bullying by filming a video of their own. The team also let her know that the Yankees were her friends, and that they’d love to spend a day with her and have her join them at their lunch table in the clubhouse. HOPE Week Surprise: Aaron Judge, Dellin Betances, Austin Romine, Giancarlo Stanton, Neil Walker, A.J. Cole, Bullpen Coach Mike Harkey, Quality Control Coach/Infield Instructor Carlos Mendoza, Hitting Coach Marcus Thames, Assistant Hitting Coach P.J. Pilittere and 1B Reggie Willits joined Cassidy and children and representatives from the anti-bullying organization “No Bully” for a kickball game at Heritage Field (located on the site of the original Yankee Stadium). Following the game, Cassidy and those from “No Bully” had lunch with the Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Cassidy and her family also got to enjoy a private tour of the Yankees clubhouse, including some time at the Yankees lunch table.

WEDNESDAY: Founded by Reno, Nevada, native Brian Williams, “Think Kindness” visits schools in an effort to inspire measurable acts of kindness in schools and communities around the world. His group teaches that each act of kindness, no matter how small, has an unforeseeable ripple effect that makes the world a better place and each life more fulfilled. During each assembly, students learn the three most important lifeskills needed to change the world: Have no fear of being made fun of for doing the right thing, be committed to be a good person no matter how mean someone may be, and always live your life as if you were the hero of your dreams. HOPE Week Surprise: Brian Cashman, CC Sabathia, Luis Severino, Aaron Hicks, David Robertson and Phil Nevin joined the founder of Think Kindness, Brian Williams, to surprise fourth and fifth graders at P.S. 73 in the Bronx. Williams—with help from Yankees players and staff—led a school assembly on the impact that a simple act of kindness can achieve.

THURSDAY: Wish of a Lifetime is an organization that connects senior citizens to people and passions to eliminate feelings of isolation and help them live vibrant, purposeful lives. The organization’s mission is to shift the way society views and values our oldest generations by fulfilling seniors’ dreams and sharing their stories to inspire those of all ages. This organization has asked us to honor St. Petersburg, Fla., resident Sal Reale, who grew up in New York and went to Yankees games a child. He served as a radio operator in the Korean War in the 1950s, then upon returning home, served as a New York City transit officer for a few years before embarking on a 20-year career with the New York City Fire Department. HOPE Week Surprise: Wish of a Lifetime and the Yankees are granting his wish to visit his old firehouse in Queens so he can remininsce about the old days and swap stories with the firefighters who currently serve there.

FRIDAY: The Yankees will recognize Mark Bustos, founder of Be Awesome to Somebody. For the last six years, the Manhattan-based hairdresser has set aside his Sunday afternoons to give haircuts to members of New York City’s homeless community. Once a week, rain or shine, the 33-year- old packs his clippers, scissors and a smile, ventures out in Manhattan, and tries to leave a positive impact on as many people as he can. Bustos was first exposed to the reality of poverty during a childhood visit to see family in the Philippines. On a return visit to the island in 2012, he rented a barber’s chair for the day and provided free haircuts to as many impoverished children as he could find. Encouraged by that enlightening experience in the Philippines, he vowed to continue making a difference once he returned home to New York, and brought the concept with him. Mark now travels the globe to give talks about how he balances his time between his hairstyling career and his volunteering efforts, inspiring others along the way. On every trip, no matter where in the world he is, he always finds time to go out and find people to give haircuts to. HOPE Week Surprise: Yankees players will join Mark Bustos and three of his co-workers at the Harlem YMCA, where they will give haircuts to over a dozen residents of the YMCA.
