Films and Audio Recordings, 1956-1988, undated Date [inclusive]: 1956-1988, undated Scope and Contents
This series consists of audio tape and motion picture film from the Outreach Office, under NCAR’s Director’s Division. Approximately 80% of these materials are motion picture films, and are in many different formats. There is an assortment of color and black and white, sound and silent. Some films have many duplicates and versions, while others have little to no inscriptions to identify their content. The remaining 20% of the collection are audio tapes and microfilm, and are also in various different formats.
The descriptions in this finding aid will often include any notes written on (or in) the film canisters, as these notes often help to differentiate between versions. Original order was respected, except in a few cases where duplicates of films were grouped together to make access easier. A list of the before and after inventory is on file with the Archivist should the need arise to compare current order to the original arrangement.

Film Specifications - 16mm Kodak ; Description - From inside cannister lid; GRADE LEVELS: Upper Elementary Grades, High School. SUBJECT AREAS: Science, Geology. ; CONTENT: This film is the search for the cause of a typical onshore sea breeze at the beach. Conditions related to the breeze are observed, possible explanations proposed, experiments in laboratory models are made, and the results are checked in nature. In this way, pressure differences are found to be associated with the normal daytime air movement. But the security of these discoveries is shaken by the reversal of the wind direction during a wind storm that blows offshore. Principles are established earlier are used to find the cause for the storm, and to discover that the local beach conditions have been overwhelmed by larger and stronger air movements. There is a list of 15 vocabulary terms and a number of questions for additional study. Film depicts lab experiments, temperature experiments, beach experiments and ocean experiments examine air pressure, with simulations.
