A Newfoundland dog named “Landseer”, who lived nearby, aided the life-saving crew in the rescue by plunging into the surf and dragging a drowning man safely to shore. After this event “Landseer” left his master and went to live at the Life-Saving Station. Each night he would join the surfman on night patrol until they met the patrolman from the next station.
