Ida Tarbell’s Shocking Articles By: Emily Ortega Ida Tarbell, born in , has become a journalist and is writing about corruption in several industries. Tarbell published many articles from a very popular company called McCulture’s Magazine. She started writing about corruption around 1891. This has ​ ​ become a greater issue today because many industries have been getting exposed by the articles written by Tarbell. The reason she began writing about this corruption is to spread awareness of the situations.

Ida Tarbell led many groups and helped establish the Anti- Act. Tarbell is one of the reasons came up with the word “ ” because they uncover dirt.

According to the csmonitor, “she wrote a series of articles on subjects such as divorce, slum life, and conditions in Mexico.” Tarbell is a woman who stood up for women’s rights and social issues. Tarbell’s greatest achievement was when she exposed John D. Rockefeller’s oil company.

She wrote about unfair business methods he was using and the readers were not thrilled about it.

This is what helped the Sherman Antitrust Act be established. When she exposed these industries, not only did she embarrass them she helped make things equal and fair.

Sadly Tarbell’s work came to an end when she passed in 1944. She tried her best in using the First Amendment and journalism as a way for her to reach out to citizens, the government, and even other businesses during her time in writing articles. Tarbell was born in Pennsylvania, but she spent a lot of her time in Paris writing her articles at her job. Tarbell showed that women can be just as smart, and hardworking as men and she proved that she and others could also do a man’s job.
