Sakhari Bauxite Mine of M/s Ashapura Minechem Limited is extended over an area of 62.77 ha in the Survey Nos / Gut Nos. Part of the 4,5,6,7 & 8 in Sakhari Village, Mandangad Taluka of Ratnagiri District of Maharashtra State. The mine will be operated by opencast mechanised method of mining. The mining operations involves drilling and blasting using control blasting technology. The proposed Bauxite production is upto a tune of 1,20,000 tonnes per annum. There are no interlinked or interdependent projects involved Topography of Applied Mine Lease Area The applied area is waste land and covered with shrub vegetation. The terrain is sloping towards south. A public road is passing at the south part of lease area. No human settlement within or in the vicinity of the applied area. The nearest village is 0.5 km.The highest and lowest elevation in the area is having an elevation difference of 195.5 (i.e. 210.5 m and 15.0 m respectively). 1 Brief Project Note: Sakhari Bauxite Mine of M/s Ashapura Minechem Limited. The drainage pattern of the buffer zone is dendritic to sub dendritic in nature. No perennial nallahs or streams are seen within the applied area. The area is covered by local shrubs, and bushes. The area experience humid tropical climate and receives as much as 4000mm of rainfall during the year. The ultimate depth of mining will be 4m from the surface level. The mining activities will not intersect ground water table. The rain water accumulated in the existing pit during monsoon will be naturally drained in a couple of days. Mining Process Open cast mining method will be adopted to operate the area. Since, the maximum annual production is 1,20,000, TPA with fully Mechanized mining method will be followed. A bench height of 1.5 to 2.4 m depending on the proved depth and 100 m influence on all sides of an individual pit will be maintained. For production, it is proposed to work in the Central, North and South side and advance towards North and South side and advance towards North. Average face advance per year will be 178.039 m and the total advance during the plan period will be 890.1932m. It is proposed to work only one level of maximum 2.4 m height during the plan period. There is 76,803 tonnes of top soil to be in the area. This topsoil will be utilized to form bund all along the lease boundary on which plantation can be made. Loading of Bauxite and intercalated waste will be by 1.5 Cum excavator and transportation will be by 10 tonnes capacity tippers. An approach road will be made along the boundary utilizing the 7.5 m barrier to connect the road to the lease area and same will be used for transport The total mineable reserves are 630890 tonnes. The life of the mine with proposed production will be 5 years. However, after the proposed exploration, the reserves position will be reviewed and accordingly the life of the mine will be recalculated. Water Requirement The total water requirement for the project is estimated as 12 KLD Overburden/ Waste: There is 0.25 m thick top soil to be removed during the period. The top soil, removed during mining will be utilized to form bund all along the lease boundary on which plantation will be made. It is proposed to handle about 140502 tonnes of intercalated waste in the plan period. The excavated land will be refilled with 20% intercalated waste produced which is a waste soil to convert waste land in to cultivable agriculture land from the 2nd plan period after completely mining bauxite up to the bottom. Hence, temporary place is earmarked for disposal of waste soil/intercalated waste. Wastewater: There will not be any process effluent generation from the mine lease area. Domestic effluent from the mine office is discharged in septic tank and soak pit. Rehabilitation & Resettlement (R&R) Plan of mined out area There is no Rehabilitation & Resettlement policy involved in this project Employment Generation (Direct and Indirect) Due to Project. Total manpower requirement in this mine is 49 (direct) and indirect employment will be around 100. Preference will be given to local employable youth for the mining operations. There is no litigation against the project or land. 2 .
