At this pont it looks like we are not going to have both a President and a vice president this next year. This has NEVER happened in the history of this club. There is a core group of 10-15 members that have kept the Board of Directors full and working. Many have flled one, multiple or ALL positions throughout the past years. But they are tired and geting older. We need some of the other members to step up!! I checked the bylaws and there is NOTHING about what to do if we do not have a full slate of ofcers. Does this mean the end to our club? PLEASE someone contact the Treasurer, Mike Farris (david,[email protected]) or the Secretary, Murray Welsh ([email protected]) if you will help us with either position. Thank you, The Potomac Chapter SDC Nomination Commitee October Because of all the pictures the entire newsleter could not be sent via email pages 5, 6, 7 can be viewed on the chapter web site. The fre extinguisher must be UL listed or equivalent and fully charged. The minimum for all vehicles is a UL type 1-A:5-B:C. For fre extinguishers without a gauge; insure that the nozzle is not obstructed and the safety seal is intact. The extinguisher need not be permanently mounted, but must be clearly visible and readily available. When the car is on display, the fre extinguisher should be on the ground near the left front wheel. For Drive-through judging, the fre extinguisher may be on the front seat or foor, but readily visible and available. This motion takes efect on January 1, 2017” The A:B:C fre extinguishers can be found at all the major retailers for home repair and improve- ments. Remember; 1-A:5-B:C is the minimum. Recommended would be 1-A:10B:C as they seem to be more readily available. Total cost for this larger size is in the $20 range and is very close to the size of a roll of paper towels. We highly recommend that these extinguishers be placed on the ground near the left front wheel of your vehicle when it is on the show feld. When moving your vehicle for judging, you may place it in a highly visible place inside your vehicle as proof that it is ready to use at a moment’s notice. This action is brought about due to a couple fres at car shows and the motion is based upon oth- er major collector car clubs rules and regulations. The chances of YOUR vehicle erupting in fames in minimal; but what if the car next to yours has the problem? By having your extinguish- er readily available you could prevent a possible disaster. • Introduction to R&C Database Compilation & Index
Introduction to R&C Database Compilation & Index I have a long history and fondness for Rod & Custom magazine. This is the first magazine I purchased at age 10, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I often refer back to my collection, but find it hard to quickly lay my hands on a given article. This is for fellow HAMB members who share a love for this little magazine. This Index covers Rod & Custom Magazine from May 1953 through May 1974. I stopped at 1974 since R&C went out of print then. R&C was restarted in December 1988 and lasted until October 2014. This index is created for general reference, technical reference, research, tracing automobile histories, and genealogy. I have attempted to use a consistent categorization or article grouping scheme across all 20+ years, even though editors or previous compilations may not have used this convention. This index contains the following specific information: Title of each article along with a descriptive supplement such as club affiliation, noted customizers, past owners, professions, etc. The author’s and/or photographer’s name where space allowed. Featured vehicle year, make, model, & engine and/or engine displacement where available or where space allowed. Vehicle owner name, city and state. Where the country is other than the United States, I listed the country Product manufacturer name, city and state. Address may be included if space allowed. The month and page number of each feature article or photograph. The index is sorted by year, and a title at the top of each page indicates which year.

I believe Rick said that Studebaker was the most prevalent marque at the show. As Rick no longer wants to chair the show he is looking for others to step up. The Opel Club has volunteered to help, but wants to co-host with another club. It was brought up that the North Georgia Club may be willing to be that co-host. I think that we need to discuss this at our June meeting along with the hosting of the next State Meet. We need as many of our members to be present for this discussion and vote. Other business that we need to discuss will be a Club golf type shirt and how many are interested. We also need to start a new meeting calendar for the 2009. As I look at the Club Meetings and the Other Event Opportunities, it looks like we are going to have a busy summer.

  • A Brief History of Studebaker Trucks: an Analysis of Production Records
A Brief History of Studebaker Trucks: An Analysis of Production Records By Skip Lackie Introduction This history of Studebaker trucks is an attempt to bring together in one document a reasonably comprehensive chronology of Studebaker truck developments and production. It will focus on such information as model and series numbers, engines and tonnages in each model, major developments and improvements, company developments that affected truck production and design, unique identification features, and production quantities. It specifically will not address such details as colors, optional equipment, or authenticity concerns. Studebaker offered around a dozen different truck models each year during most of the post-War period, and also offered an ever- changing range of different transmissions, axle ratios, tire sizes, and wheelbases in most of them. The list of available optional equipment, sparse before the War, became very extensive during the long production of 2R-series trucks, and stayed that way thereafter. Many of these options were available for several years, but some transitioned back and forth between being standard equipment and optional at extra cost. Color combinations often were revised every year. Keeping track of exactly what could be ordered on a given model of Studebaker truck is beyond the scope of this history. Fortunately, however, this type of information has been described in considerable detail by historian Fred Fox, who authored a series of articles that describe each Studebaker truck model and series in the Studebaker Drivers Club’s monthly magazine Turning Wheels. Those wishing information on one particular year or model of Studebaker truck should purchase the particular copy of TW that describes their vehicle of interest.
