  • Shawnigan Lake School Hockey Program
Shawnigan Lake School Hockey Program Canada’s Boarding School. Canada’s Game. Shawnigan Lake School is a co-educational, university-preparatory boarding school for boys and girls in grades 8-12. Located beside the shore of the lake that shares our name, Shawnigan has a nearly century-long tradition of excellence in offering a complete education to our students. A rigorous academic curriculum, combined with exposure to athletic, artistic and leadership opportunities, creates graduates armed with the skills necessary to succeed in university and beyond. More than 90% of Shawnigan’s students live full-time on campus in one of nine modern, comfortable boarding houses. We are proud to be a 24/7 boarding school and not merely a “school with boarding.” This distinction allows us to take advantage of educational opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom. Students learn to be independent, but know that a caring, committed group of adults is never more than an arm’s reach away. As a boarding school with a deep sense of pride in its Canadian heritage, it is only natural that Shawnigan would include ice hockey among its flagship sport offerings. A thrilling combination of speed and skill, gracefulness and grittiness, the sport gives athletes of all ages a perfect venue to learn lessons about teamwork, dedication and commitment. Historically, Shawnigan has competed in a local league, practicing and playing games at Kerry Park Arena against other teams from the area and traditional independent school rivals including Brentwood College School and St. George’s School. Though the School does everything possible to maximize the amount of ice time available to its teams and players, scheduling conflicts have forced Shawnigan teams to look beyond their local community for time to hone their skills.
