Learning to Tithe Month by Month ______

Name Dear Student,

As a member of the Orthodox Church, you can help care for it. You can do many things. One of them is to bring in some money for the collection each week. This is called a “tithe.”

These pages are arranged for each month between No- vember and May. On the pages of this book you can color, and paste. There are pictures to paste on the last page.

We need to care. We need to share. To tithe is to share. Learning to Tithe

Draw a dollar. Draw a dime. The dime goes in the collection basket. Jesus Christ gave us the Church. We help care for it when we put money in the collection basket. You can put money in, too. When you receive a dollar for allowance or as a gift, put in a dime. For every dollar, put in a dime. We call this a “tithe.” Nov 3 Jesus is God’s Gift The Feast of the Nativity of Our Lord is December 25

Jesus is God’s gift to us. God wants us to say, “thank you!” How can we say, “thank you?” We can say “thank you,” when we pray. We can say “thank you,” when we bring a tithe to church.

Jan 5 The Great Fast Begins The Sunday of Orthodoxy is the fi rst Sunday of the Great Fast

Our church cares for those who need our help. During the Great Fast we give money so that the poor will have food. We also bring in canned goods, and other foods that won’t spoil.

During the Great Fast, we collect food for the hungry. Draw what you will bring from the store.

Feb 6 The Entrance into Jerusalem Feast of the Entrance into Jerusalem is the Sunday before Holy Week.

The Children and the adults greeted Jesus. They waved palms to honor him, like he was a king. At his birth wise- men came from the east. They were looking for the newborn king. They brought him gifts to honor him. Like the kings gave gold to Jesus at birth, we give him honor when we tithe.
