In all, about 6¼ acres. 3 Ref: LCAA5701 DESCRIPTION Furzupland is an incredibly desirable and absolutely unique residence only 1½ miles from the centre of Truro yet offering complete privacy with no near neighbours. The house is situated at the end of a long tarmaced driveway with an unassuming entrance, at the end of which a more imposing set of Cornish granite entrance piers open onto a further driveway, which sweeps past gorgeous borders and a low stone wall with mature trees before arriving at the house. The non-Listed house is surrounded by its own immaculate lawned gardens with a deep granite terrace outside of the conservatory and a sweeping granite pathway leading from the drive to the front door. To the north and west sides of the gardens are two fields in the ownership of Furzupland with both of these have far reaching countryside views and are shielded from the house by wooded copses adding to this magnificent environment. The fields are relatively level and would be ideal for equestrian use, with the whole running to about 6¼ acres. The house is believed to have been completed in the 1870’s and was built to a unique Regency design with stone and slate hung elevations, high arched windows and doors, buttresses, impressive lead work and an almost castle like feel. It is believed that the house was originally built for a reclusive shipping millionaire who could view the, then, Higher Lemon Quay and his arriving/departing ships from the master bedroom. It is rumoured that he used to keep the largest number of domestic staff in Truro and would not allow them to enter the first floor of the property. Under its current ownership Furzupland has been meticulously restored to its original design with detailed historical research down to the design of the early Victorian tiled hallway. All of the original arched doors have been reintroduced in Canadian walnut which has also been used for the drawing room and dining room floors, although it was deemed more appropriate to fit Italian travertine flooring 4 Ref: LCAA5701 to both the kitchen and conservatory with underfloor heating. In recent years two significant extensions have been added, comprising a spacious Amdega conservatory which opens into the garden and a broad triple car garage. The extensions have also allowed for the creation of a proper utility room and a gym/cinema room. LOCATION Furzupland is found to the north of Truro in the highly regarded parish of Kenwyn. Kenwyn is known as the most exclusive area of Truro with a mix of grand period homes and substantial modern houses along with a beautiful church and Furzupland is one of only a few properties in open countryside to enjoy this address. At the house it is difficult to believe that the centre of Truro is only 1½ miles away and that the best facilities within Cornwall are so near to hand. The surrounding countryside is mostly pasture and rolls downhill in either direction to the River Kenwyn to the west and to the east, the River Allen and Idless Woods where there are fantastic walks and mountain biking opportunities. The north coast surf beaches are 5 Ref: LCAA5701 also near at hand, with Perranporth being around a 15 minute drive away although there are an almost never ending array of different beaches, headlands and coves to explore. Around 15 minutes drive to the south are the sailing waters of the Carrick Roads which are known as some of the safest and most enjoyable in the United Kingdom with many creeks, villages and beaches to enjoy. There are moorings available at Loe Beach at Feock and marinas at Mylor and Falmouth catering for all sizes of boats. The cathedral city of Truro has all of the amenities that one would expect of the best served settlement to the west of Exeter. There are excellent business, commercial, shopping and schooling facilities in the city including three highly regarded private schools. Truro also boasts the main Royal Cornwall Hospital, at Treliske, The Hall for Cornwall theatre, a museum, cinema and a mainline railway station on the Penzance to Paddington line. Road links to Truro are excellent, as the nearby A30 expressway links Truro to the rest of Cornwall and to the motorway network at Exeter.
