A particularly fine Grade II- listed timber-framed building, it is considered by many to be one the oldest (if not the oldest) hostel- ries in Herefordshire - dating back to the 1500s, and (it is alleged) some parts are even older. Histo- rians inform us that in the past it was a drovers’ inn. It even warrants an entry in the definitive works of the late and great architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner – rare praise indeed. There is no doubt the Rhydspence Inn is a place of great distinction. After years of uncertainty as to its future, good news can now finally be reported. It is now under new ownership, and at the helm is local boy, Mark Price, who is realising a lifetime’s dream by taking on the historic old inn.

It’s then open until 11pm Friday night and from 12noon to 11pm on Saturday and, finally, from 12noon to 5pm on the Sunday. One major change for the twelfth Festival is the marquee: not only is it bigger, but it is shaped like a cathedral - complete with two wings (transepts) set back and ei- ther side of the performance stage. But be assured we won’t be going into competition with the Bishop and his loyal flock just along the River Wye from us – our proceedings and drinks will be totally different!     CLIFFORD (HEREFORDSHIRE) NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN Regulation 14 Consultation Draft Incorporating Clifford, Clifford Village, Priory Wood, Pen-Y-Parc, Hardwicke, Archenfield, Westbrook and Middlewood Plan Period 2011 - 2031 2 SUMMARY Clifford Parish is a cherished place, with features that make it special and worthy of careful protection. It is defined by its unique natural setting and overwhelmingly beautiful landscape. This is out-of-the-ordinary having been deemed to be an important transitional landscape in a number of planning decisions. Residents of the Parish value this natural setting and landscape highly and want to conserve it. Active engagements with residents took place during the development of this plan. The overall feedback was that residents love where they live and want to ensure that the Parish is enhanced and protected. Other key points of note from the feedback include: Clifford Parishioners generally accept a housing target of 30 for the planning period 2011- 2031, though it is recognised that the plan must make positive provision for development, many residents expressed the view that there should be an upper limit when they were consulted, with developments being small-scale and in keeping with the area and landscape. There is a risk of disproportionate overdevelopment of Clifford Parish in the current planning period, and this should be prevented. Settlement boundaries for Clifford Village and Priory Wood have been defined. The rest of the Parish is classified as "open countryside" where there are restrictions upon housing development. Affordable housing for local people using exception sites will be encouraged. The special and delicate landscape of Clifford is of great importance to its residents.
