Once you’ve picked up your number, please make your way to the start at Rhydfadog. The start of the race is 500m from the school. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE AT THE START LINE, READY TO RACE AT 7.15. IF YOU ARE NOT THERE, THE RACE WIL START WITHOUT YOU!! The race will be started by Jayne Lloyd, who was the last female winner of the race back in 2004. Jayne Lloyd is an ex Welsh International, been to several World and European trophies. Former Welsh fell running champ and North Wales cross country champion. It was Jayne who said that this was the hardest 10kM road race she’d ever run!! Run: The race will start at Rhydfadog at 7.15 prompt, this is because there will be a local bus arriving at the village at 7.20pm, and as you can appreciate we’re not allowed to stop traffic! There are a number of roads leading off the High Street, and volunteers will be placed on each of these junctions. There will be two-way radio communication between the start and all marshals along the High St. After 900m there is a right turn up towards Marchlyn, which is the road that was built to carry traffic up to Marchlyn Mawr, which is the Llyn used to feed the Dinorwig power station. This is the first hill climb. The length is 1.1kM and rises Page 2 RAS LÔN DEINIOLEN 10KM ROAD RACE GWYL DEINIOLEN A’R CYLCH from an altitude of 219m to 311m, which has an incline of 7%. The steepest incline on this first climb is 14.5%! Although the course may seem flat after this, the road continues to climb for another 1.7kM, but not so steep! After about 4.9kM, there will be a water station, where you can choose to take some water if required. From here, the course is mostly flat and then down hill until you reach the bottom of Lôn Penybont at 7.5kM. This is the last hill climb, which has an average elevation of 8.1%, with the steepest part being 9.8%. Perhaps this will feel harder after7.5K!! Lôn Penybont is nearly a kilometre in length, where at the top, you will take a left hand turn down the first hill climb before turning left and to the finish at Ysgol Gwaun Gynfi. The race finish is on the school yard, and there is a tricky shimmy required in order to enter the finishing straight. Hazards There may be a few hazards along the route, they include kerbs at the start of the race, speed bumps through the village, sheep and lambs who practice the Deiniolen 10K on a regular basis, and also pigs by the water station at the half way mark (no joke by the way!!) Presentation: It is hoped that we can carry out the presentation by about 8.30pm. Presentation categories are as follows; MALE FEMALE 1st Overall 1st Overall 2nd Overall 2nd Overall 3rd Overall 3rd Overall 1st Junior (Under 20) 1st Junior (Under 20) 1st Over 40 1st Over 35 1st Over 50 1st Over 50 1st Over 60 1st Over 60 1st Over 70 1st Over 70 Page 3 RAS LÔN DEINIOLEN 10KM ROAD RACE GWYL DEINIOLEN A’R CYLCH Spectators: Spectators and supporters are most welcome and we enjoy having them there as it all adds to the great atmosphere. We ask competitors to remind friends and family to keep off the road at the start of the race and not to enter the finishing straight at the school. Please adhere to any requests from race officials. Results: Results will be texted to your chosen phone soon after the race, courtesy of TDL. They will also be found online at TDL Event Serices and can be found online at: http://www.tdl.ltd.uk Changing and Toilet Facilities: Changing and toilet facilities will be available at the registration at Ysgol Gwaun Gynfi and at Tŷ Elidir, which can be found on the High Street on the way to the start. Refreshments: As well as refreshments at the finish line for competitors there will be refreshments available for friends and family to purchase on the school yard. There will be water available at the 4.6kM for the runners and also at the finish. Sponsors, Helpers, Volunteers and Authorities: Without helpers and volunteers, the Deiniolen 10kM road race could not go ahead. There will be marshals all over the course, and at the finish. Gwyl Deiniolen a’r Cylch and Deiniolen 10K would like to thank them in advance for their help. Race Photographs. Every runner will receive a profile picture courtesy of SportpicturesCymru, if the photographers managed to capture you while running. © Lonely Planet Publications Pty Ltd SNOWDONIA & THE LLŶN 3 PERFECT DAYS DAY 1 // CONQUER THE MOUNTAIN Check the weather forecast before making an assault on Snowdon (p226). If you’re fit, catch the Snowdon Sherpa bus to Pen-y-Pass and take the Pyg Track (p227). Time your descent via the Rhyd Ddu Path to catch the Welsh Highland Railway (p244) back to Caernarfon. If you’re not up for climbing, head to Llanberis and take the Snowdon Mountain Railway (p227). You’ll be up and down the mountain in 2½ hours, leaving plenty of time to check out the National Slate Museum (p230) and Dolbadarn Castle (p231) before stocking up on mead at Snowdon Honey Farm (p231). Head to Caer- narfon and watch the sunset over the Menai Strait from beside the city walls before dining at the Black Boy Inn (p235). DAY 2 // BE A PILGRIM Spend the morning exploring Caernarfon Castle (p233) before heading for the Llŷ n Peninsula. Ideally you’ll have prebooked a boat to Bardsey but if they’re not running, make do with gazing at the island from Braich-y-Pwll (p239). Abersoch (p241), Cric- cieth (p243) and Porthmadog (p244) are good places to stop for the night, but Harlech (p218) has the best restaurants – along with another World Heritage castle. DAY 3 // A SCENIC OVERLOAD Wherever you ended up, take the scenic A498 through the Pass of Aberglaslyn and back into the national park. Spend the day pottering along the route between Beddge- lert (p228) and Betws-y-Coed (p222), stopping at the lakes, lookouts and falls.

Description: 1.1 This is a full application to install an underground 132KV grid connection between the Glyn Rhonwy pumped storage site and the existing substation in Pentir. 1.2 The connection will run for approximately 8km to the north-east from the source of the connection in Glyn Rhonwy and it will all be laid underground. First of all, it would run within the Glyn Rhonwy site, through a 0.6m wide and 1.2m deep ditch and then through a similar ditch along the verge of the A4086, A4244 and B4547 highways towards the substation in Pentir. The cables themselves would be installed within a protected duct, at a depth of 1.7m within the ditch. At the point where the path crosses Afon Rhyddallt, it is proposed to bore into the land near the riverside and send the borer under the riverbed to the land on the other side of the river. This is essential as the existing duct within the bridge is not suitable for 132kv cables.
