Transportation to and in the Washington, D.C./Northern Virginia Area

Getting to Washington, D.C. Reagan National Airport (airport code DCA) and Union Station train station are the most convenient arrival locations for the 2017 Public Policy Conference. Both Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) Thurgood Marshall Airport and Dulles International Airport (IAD) require a minimum one hour travel from the airport to the Conference hotel.

Getting to the Conference Hotel The 2017 Public Policy Conference is being held at the Marriott Marquis D.C. (901 Massachusetts Ave. NW). The Marriott Marquis does not provide shuttle transportation from local airports or Union Station, so taxis or public transportation must be utilized. Non- accessible taxis are readily available at all local airports, Union Station and the Conference hotel. Accessible shuttles should be pre-arranged as noted below. Please note that this list is not exhaustive, nor is it an endorsement from the Society.

Payment for Metro: Metrorail travel requires the purchase & use of a SmartTrip card (paper fare cards are no longer accepted). The SmartTrip card is a permanent, rechargeable card that can hold funds for Metrobus, Metrorail, and Metro parking. The card costs $2 and can be purchased and managed (re-charged) at any Metrorail station/SmartTrip Kiosk. Metrorail attendants are available to assist you with this process. To use your SmartTrip card for payment, simply touch the card to the circular targets on top of or inside station fare gates.

From the Reagan National Airport to the Hotel: Take the Yellow line from Reagan National Washington Airport in the direction of Fort Totten/Mt. Vernon Sq. to the Mount Vernon Square/Convention Center metro stop. Mount Vernon Square/Convention Center metro station is approximately 0.3 miles from Marriott Marquis (approx. 7 minute walk). Fare: $2.75 each way during rush hours & $2.20 in off rush hours.

From Union Station to the Hotel: Take the Red line from Union Station in the direction of Shady Grove to Gallery Place/Chinatown. From here, the Marriott Marquis is approximately 0.4 miles away/approx. 8 minute walk. Metro fare is $2.15 each way during rush hours & $1.75 in off rush hours

From Dulles Airport to the Hotel:  Connect to Metrorail Using Silver Line Express Bus: From Dulles Airport, you can also take the Silver Line Express Bus to the Wiehle-Reston East Metrorail station (approximately a 15 minute commute). Information on bus pick-up location, schedule, and fare can be found here. From Wiehle-Reston East Station you take the Silver line in the direction of Largo Town Center to . From Metro Center Station take the Red line on the upper mezzanine in the direction of Glenmont, one stop to Gallery Place Metro Station. From here, the Marriott Marquis is approximately 0.4 miles away/approx. 8 minute walk.

Metro Fare: Wiehle-Reston East Station to or Mt. Vernon Sq. Station - $5.90 each way during rush hours & $3.60 in off rush hours.

 Connect to Metrorail Using Metrobus: For just $7 per person ($3.50 for seniors and people with disabilities), the 5A takes you to Rosslyn Metrorail station on the Orange, Silver and Blue Lines with just one stop in between. From the Rosslyn Metro Station, take the Orange, Silver, or Blue lines in the direction of New Carrollton/Largo Town Center to Metro Center Station. From Metro Center Station, take the Red line on the upper mezzanine in the direction of Glenmont, one stop to Gallery Place Metro Station. From BWI Airport to the Hotel:  Connect to Metro Rail Using MARC Train: You can also take a shuttle from the airport to the MARC rail station and take the MARC train to Union Station Metro Station. From Union Station, take the Red line in the direction of Shady Grove and get off at the Gallery Place Metro Station. From here, the Marriott Marquis is approximately 0.4 miles away/approx. 8 minute walk.  Connect to Metro Rail Using Metrobus: For just $7 per person (exact change required), the B30 takes you to Greenbelt Metrorail station on the Green Line.
