Since its establishment in 1977, the Diocese of Biloxi has been led by three bishops. Bishop Joseph Lawson Howze, the first bishop of Biloxi, second from left, served from 1977 until his retirement in 2001. He was succeeded by Bishop Thomas J. Rodi, second from right, who served from 2001 until 2008, when Pope Benedict XVI named him Metropolitan Archbishop of Mobile. Bishop Roger Morin, far left, was named bishop of Biloxi in 2009. Upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 75 on March 7, 2016, Bishop Morin submitted his letter of resignation to Pope Francis. On Dec. 16, the Holy Father appointed Msgr. Louis Kihneman III, of Corpus, Christi, Texas, as fourth bishop of Biloxi. All three bishops attended a December 16 press conference welcoming their successor, Bishop-elect Kihneman (far right), who Archbishop Rodi will ordain and install as fourth bishop of Biloxi on February 17, 2017, at 2:30 p.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral in Biloxi.
