Broadcasting & Electronic Media at EKU The Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting and Electronic Media offers students three attractive options: (1) General, (2) Broadcast News and (3) Film Techniques and Technology. This major emphasizes hands-on learning. It provides students with the creative and technical skills necessary for successful careers in a variety of traditional and outlets.

Broadcasting & Electronic Media Careers EKU graduates with a Broadcasting & Electronic Media degree are employed by and stations, cable companies, networks, production companies, corporations, government, and direct programming systems. Taught by exceptional faculty members possessing strong professional skills, new graduates pursue careers as anchors, audio producers, camera operators, directors, general managers, news directors, news reporters, producers, radio and TV talent, sales managers, sports reporters, video editors, videographers, video production assistants, writers, and salespersons. As broadcasting, cable TV, corporate communications industries, video production companies, as well as websites with audio and video playback features expand, the need for qualified broadcast and electronic media professionals will continue to increase.

What To Expect Students majoring in Broadcasting & Electronic Media (BEM) begin their studies taking courses in the arts and humanities, and physical and social sciences designed to provide a strong base of understanding about the world in which we live. As students progress in their studies, professional communication courses will become more prevalent in their semester schedules, and students will learn how to master the changing electronic environment. Courses in BEM emphasize building technical abilities, and students are expected to produce portfolio quality material in each class.

Department Faculty and Student Organizations BEM majors use the department’s digital audio lab, digital video lab, and two computer labs. Students have access to a professional TV studio for production classes. They receive direct news production experience by producing commercials, public service announcements, and one of the many video productions created and premiered each semester, and through opportunities to work on independent film projects. Students are also encouraged to take advantage of internship and cooperative education opportunities.
