  • 7 BEST VODKAS at ANY PRICE: HOLIDAY 2016 Posted on Nov 02, 2016
7 BEST VODKAS AT ANY PRICE: HOLIDAY 2016 Posted on Nov 02, 2016 You know who knows best which bottles to buy for holiday gifting? The people who pour and sell drinks—that’s who. For 2016, we asked dozens of top bartending and spirits industry professionals to tell us which bottles they love and why. Heads up: The numerical order below is not organized by importance or quality. It’s a list, not a ranking. Prices are averages and can vary state to state. 1. REYKA ($25)($25) “Reyka is what I’m putting in my vodka cocktails lately, as well as neat sips straight out the freezer. Plus, the distillery is geothermally powered! How cool is that?—Karin Stanley, co- owner of Dutch Kills and bartender at Little Branch and Suffolk Arms 2. BARR HILL ($58)($58) “A vodka that has a great taste and lends a taste profile to a cocktail. Since it’s made with honey, it has a subtle sweetness but is nicely balanced.”—James Bolt, beverage director and host bartender at The Gin Joint 3. LUKSUSOWA ($15)($15) “Dollar for dollar, this Polish potato vodka is one of the best values in spirits.”—Michael J. Neff, bar director at Holiday Cocktail Lounge SPONSORED ABSOLUT ELYX BUY NOW Only one luxury vodka is distilled in a 1921 copper column still, uses single-estate winter wheat and earned the nickname “liquid silk.” And when you buy it, you also give a week’s worth of clean water to a person in need. It’s the perfect holiday gift, even if you keep the bottle for yourself.

  • Habaneros from My Backyard Garden Infused This Vodka with a Glassy Golden Hue
More Edge Than Edgy by Barbara Haas appeared in The Isthmus Review, 2019 Habaneros from my backyard garden infused this vodka with a glassy golden hue. I angled the bottle toward the window, tilting it just-so. Plenty of sunshine streamed through. I had whipped this batch up from Belaya Berezka, a premium brand I had brought back from Moscow last month. My homespun recipe called for a ratio of three habaneros to one liter. When I sliced the peppers, a vapor wave of pungent heat wafted up and engulfed me. I even recoiled somewhat, because the skin around my nose suddenly tingled. The peppers were richly pigmented inside and out—zesty, orange and bright—and my knife left bold fiery streaks on the cutting board. On the day I sieved the vodka and filtered it through a fine mesh cloth, nothing about the spent slices or seeds said “habanero” any longer. Three weeks in a cool dark place allowed Scoville Units to transfer massively to the vodka. A 40% alcohol content had performed a Total Takedown on the habaneros. The exchange between the two had been supreme. When I flew back from Moscow last month, this liter of Belaya Berezka was crystalline and clear. It had now acquired a striking amber glow but remained as transparent as glass. I stood the bottle in the freezer all afternoon and then later that evening downed a shot “in one,” as my Muscovite komradski might say. Cold and spicy at the same time, this vodka would torch a Bloody Mary to perfection.

Die moderne Bar im restaurierten, denkmalgeschützten Spiegelsaal. Classic-Cocktails meet trendy drinks, beer & fancy food.

  • Chemical Profile of Sotol Analyzed by Solid Phase Microextraction-Gas Chromatography
American Journal of Agricultural and Biological Sciences 5 (3): 261-268, 2010 ISSN 1557-4989 © 2010 Science Publications Chemical Profile of Sotol Analyzed by Solid Phase Microextraction-Gas Chromatography Heliodoro de la Garza, Juan Buenrostro, María Reyes-Vega, Raúl Rodríguez, Dolores G. Martinez and Cristobal N. Aguilar Department of Food Science and Technology, School of Chemistry, Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila, Blvd., Venustiano Carranza Col. República 25280, Saltillo Coahuila, México Abstract: Problem statement: Sotol is a distilled spirit made from Dasylirion spp., a plant (called sotol) that grows in the wilds of Northern Mexico and west Texas and New Mexico. This alcoholic beverage is produced in a similar process to the more common artisanal tequila and mescal. Sotol is also now beginning to achieve international recognition; however there are few commercial examples available, which are elaborated with poor quality and sensorial attributes un-defined. Approach: This is the first study which reported a chemical characterization of the main components of six commercial sotols, establishing the correlations among the samples and determining the similitude levels. Solid Phase Microextraction-Gas Chromatography (SPME-GC) was used to analyze the chemical compounds present in the sotols (Hacienda TM , Mesteno TM , Coyamito, Los Cuates, un-aged Alacrán and rested Alacran). Results: From data obtained of the analysis of main components, a total of 25 chemical compounds were found to be related with six physicochemical characteristics of sotol, explaining 66.1% of the total variance. Rested Alacran and un-aged Alacran sotols were related by the high content of propionic acid, undecanoic acid, acetic acid, buthanol and furfural and by the low contents of phenyl ethanol, decanoic acid and ethyl dodecanoic acid.

Following a Swedish design tradition where form follows function we only use elements that have a purpose and every detail of every element is executed with preciseness and elegance. How have you collaborated with artists or agencies for the redesign? Having clear purpose and common goal, driven by the Absolut Brand Strategy team has allowed each of our artistic collaborators and agencies to work together to create a holistic and balanced design that we are known for.
