Shri Narsingh Narain Pandey passed away on 8 January, 2018 in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh at the age of 88. Shri Raghunath Jha was a Member of the 13th and 14th Lok Sabhas representing the Gopalganj and Bettiah Parliamentary Constituencies of Bihar. Shri Jha was Union Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises from April, 2008 to May, 2009. He was a Member of the Committee on Agriculture; Committee on Ethics; Committee on Home Affairs Railway Convention Committee; House Committee and also the Public Accounts Committee. Shri Jha was a Member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly from 1972 to 1998. He also served as Minister in the Government of Bihar. Shri Raghunath Jha passed away on 15 January, 2018 in New Delhi at the age of 78. We deeply mourn the loss of our two former colleagues. I am sure the House would join me in conveying our condolences to the bereaved families.

    Current Affairs of the day (August 3, 2019) Om Birla Unanimously Elected Speaker of the 17th Lok Sabha BJP MP from Rajasthan, Om Birla, was elected as the Speaker of the 17th Lok Sabha. Congress, Trimool and other opposition parties also supported Om Birla as the Speaker. Birla's nomination for the Speaker post was backed by all the NDA allies. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Om Birla was unanimously elected as the Speaker of the 17th Lok Sabha on June 19, 2019. Om Birla, two times MP from Rajasthan's Kota, was elected after Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed his name on Day 3 of the Lok Sabha session. Prime Minister Narendra Modi greets Om Birla, a two-time BJP MP from Rajasthan's Kota, after he was unanimously elected as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha in a rare instance of multi-partisan support for a nominee of the ruling coalition, at Parliament in New Delhi on June 19, 2019. Om Birla's nomination for the Speaker's post was backed by all the NDA allies. The Congress and Trinamool Congress and other opposition parties supported Om Birla for Speaker.
