This temple is built on a land area of ??about 20 hectares, has 46 large and small temples which are divided into three parts; Pura Pemungsungan Jagat with as many as 20 temples, Pura Kawitan as many as 17 temples, and Pura Dadya as many as nine temples. As a worshiping place, the main temple is named Agung Besakih, consisting of 18 companion temples, namely the Basukian temple and 17 other temple buildings. From the top of this temple, we can clearly see the dashing of Mount Agung.

Besakih Temple is located at an altitude of 1,100 meters above sea level, about 7.5 km at the foot of Mount Agung. No wonder that Besakih Temple is one of the starting points for tourists who want to go hiking or trekking to Mount Agung. The first route to climb, starts from the east side of Besakih Temple, namely Junggul Mouth, the altitude is around 1,300 meters above sea level.
