While striving to equip our students with the skills they will need to navigate a rapidly changing world, we never lose sight of our mission and vision: to educate and inspire children to think, feel, and act with depth, imagination, and purpose. Together, faculty, staff, and parents are building a foundation for life-long learning and integrity for our students. Our enrollment growth, program enrichment, and facilities development are made possible by the generosity, care, and commitment of our school community. Whether we are faculty/staff, donors, families, Trustees, students, or members of the wider funding community, we all play essential roles in meeting Waldorf’s mission. I am proud and humbled to be the Executive Director of our wonderful school. It is my pleasure to acknowledge our joint contributions and achievements, including the financial support that has made possible our on-going facility, programmatic, and marketing developments, the parent-organized events that have contributed to scholarship funds and professional teacher development, while simultaneously enriching the celebratory school culture, the many volunteer hours from Trustees and Committee members, working to ensure that Baltimore has a Waldorf school to serve generations to come, the commitment of time and energy of those who come into school for a myriad of purposes, including to read, share their experiences and expertise with students, water plants, and ensure there is always a hot beverage and a warm welcome to those who comes through our doors. I am pleased to welcome you to the 2018–2019 Waldorf School of Baltimore Annual Report which highlights our fundraising efforts and noteworthy projects, and provides financial statements and an account of major contributions. Emmet 3 Message from the President of the Board of Trustees January 2020 Dear Waldorf Families, The Waldorf School of Baltimore is proud to celebrate nearly fifty years of its mission to educate and inspire children to think, feel and act with depth, imagination and purpose. This mission has successfully been fulfilled due to the incredible commitment from our faculty, administration, Board of Trustees, and the extraordinary support of our donors. Together, as a Waldorf family, we look to the future with renewed excitement and optimism to continue what modestly began years ago. We opened the 2018-19 school year with a strong team of faculty and staff and a diverse student body. We launched Phase II of our Capital Campaign to finance construction on the first floor. The new spaces will consist of a student services room, a flexible classroom, and bathrooms incorporating a modest green room, which provide additional space to further enrich student experiences and program options. The board is proud to have approved a revised salary plan to be implemented over a set schedule. It is the board and administration’s priority to provide competitive salaries to ensure our school’s growth and sustainability. We must retain and attract outstanding faculty and staff to continue to provide the high-quality program delivered by our experienced and dedicated teachers. This plan includes enrollment growth. Constant program development and improvement ensures that each child is offered a rich, engaging, and inspiring Waldorf education. Photos by Karen Coughlin Photo by Edna K. Our weekday and Saturday Photo by Karen Coughlin Parent and Child classes attract and introduce new families to Waldorf education and maintain the pipeline of students for the elementary school. Our Forest Aftercare Program provides a unique nature- based program that inspires and engages students of all ages. We are pleased to provide this important service to our busy parents. Continual growth at Waldorf is testament to the joint efforts of our whole community. Our many special events provide exciting opportunities for all members of the community to help grow and energize our school. Over the past 9 years I have been involved with school as a parent, an alumni parent, a Windows into Waldorf guide, a donor, and Board member. It is my pleasure to be able to thank all teachers, staff, parents, students, alumni, volunteers, and donors for everything you have done to support our school over this past year, without you the Waldorf School of Baltimore would not exist.
