The two friezes on the altar celebrated the city and its superiority over the Gauls, who were a constant threat to the Pergamenes. Inside the structure, a small frieze depicted the legendary founding of Pergamon. In 181 BCE Eumenes II had the enormous altar “built on a hill above the city to commemorate the victory of Rome and her allies over Antiochos III the Great of Syria at the Battle of Magnesia (189 BCE) a victory that had given Eumenes much of the Seleucid Empire. A large part of the sculptural decoration has been recovered, and the entire west front of the monument, with the great flight of stairs leading to its entrance, has been reconstructed in Berlin, speaking to the colonial trend of archaeological imperialism of the late 19th century. Comments on August 1, 2018 Planning Commission agenda items, received July 26-30 Items 1a/b, South Nashville Community Plan Amendment/Fairgrounds Mixed-Use District -----Original Message----- From: John Bernatavitz [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, July 30, 2018 10:30 AM To: Planning Commissioners Subject: Major League Soccer is what Nashville needs; so please support the proposed stadium! Dear Members of the Planning Commission, The 2018 World Cup said it all. What a great event! Nashville could also potentially share in the sport the binds the world together. I support the proposed Major League Soccer Stadium and renovation to the Fairgrounds Nashville. Professional sports teams in Nashville have turned into major brands that are recognized across their various leagues. The Predators not only hosted the NHL All Star weekend not long ago but are widely hailed as having the best home ice advantage in hockey. The Titans, on the heels of their incredible new uniform update ceremony, were selected to host next year's NFL draft at Ascend Amphitheater. Professional sports always have, and always will greatly benefit not only the neighborhoods where they play, but the city as a whole. I would ask that you seize this opportunity to make history with us and vote to approve this soccer stadium as well as the accompanying fairgrounds renovations. I recently went on a trip to Belize, and in the small village of Hopkins, Belize, I and my wife had the privilege of experiencing the World Cup final between Croatia and France with many people throughout the world in this village.

  • Ny Waterway Commuter Ferry/Bus Network
From: NY Waterway 4800 Avenue at Port Imperial Weehawken, NJ 07086 Rubenstein Contact: Pat Smith (212) 843-8026 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NY WATERWAY COMMUTER FERRY/BUS NETWORK NY Waterway operates the largest privately-owned commuter ferry service in the U.S., carrying more than 32,000 passenger trips per day – 10 million trips per year – on 34 boats serving 23 routes between New Jersey and Manhattan, and between Rockland and Westchester counties, and between Orange and Dutchess counties. Thousands of NY Waterway ferry commuters save an hour or more per trip, the equivalent of a one-month vacation every year. Ferries provide comfortable seating in climate-controlled cabins, but many passengers elect to ride outdoors, experiencing the exhilaration of the trip and the breath-taking views. Passengers’ biggest complaint is that the ride is too short. A fleet of 70 NY Waterway buses provide a free, seamless commute between ferry terminals in New York and New Jersey and inland locations. “Our commuter ferries provide safe, convenient and efficient commuter services, reducing traffic and pollution in the Metropolitan area,” says NY Waterway President & Founder Arthur E. Imperatore, who started the business in 1986. Operating out of beautiful ferry terminals on both sides of the Hudson River, NY Waterway provides an unrivaled commuting experience. Commuter routes include: Port Imperial in Weehawken NJ, to West 39th Street in Manhattan, all day, seven days a week. Port Imperial to Brookfield Place / Battery Park City Ferry Terminal, morning/evening rush hours, weekdays; all day weekends. Port Imperial to Pier 11 at Wall Street, morning/evening rush hours, weekdays.

  • Defining Regulators of Human Hematopoietic Stem Cells
DEFINING REGULATORS OF HUMAN HEMATOPOIETIC STEM CELLS Christine Karlsson Division of Molecular Medicine and Gene Therapy Department of Laboratory Medicine Faculty of Medicine DOCTORAL DISSERTATION With the approval of the Lund University Faculty of Medicine, this thesis will be defended on June 15, 2013 at 09.00 in the Segerfalk lecture hall, BMC A10, Sölvegatan 17, Lund, Sweden. Faculty opponent Professor Hal E. Broxmeyer, PhD Indiana School of Medicine Indiana, USA Organization Document name LUND UNIVERSITY DOCTORAL DISSERTATION Date of issue Division of Molecular Medicine and Gene Therapy June 15, 2013 Institution of Laboratory Medicine, Lund Author(s) Sponsoring organization Christine Karlsson Title and subtitle DEFINING REGULATORS OF HUMAN HEMATOPOIETIC STEM CELLS Abstract Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) is a conceptual and elegant example of stem cell therapy, rendered possible by the dual capacity of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) to self-renew and differentiate. These defining features ultimately ensure the production of all blood cell lineages and simultaneous maintenance of the stem cell pool, thereby maintaining lifelong homeostasis. Banked umbilical cord blood (CB) is an abundant and readily available stem cell resource. However, the relatively low numbers of hematopoietic stem- and progenitor cells (HSPCs) present in a typical single CB unit and the associated delay in engraftment restrict its routine applicability to primarily children. Despite intense global efforts to find strategies that would enable the ex vivo amplification of transplantable stem cells, the culture of HSCs outside their natural environment has proven difficult. It is therefore important to understand how HSC self-renewal, proliferation, and differentiation are integrated, which molecules participate in their regulation and how these could be modified for clinical benefit.
