“I care for...Počitelj” This medieval unique settlement, listed for UNESCO heritage site, is situated in the valley of the Neretva River, twentyfive kilometers from Mostar, on the route to the Adriatic Sea. In the 1960s it begins to grow as an artist center, promoted also by the famous writer Nobel Prize winner Ivo Andrić. Počitelj, with its jumble of medieval stone buildings, ancient tower overlooking the river and its proximity to the seaside, gave to artists and will give to You a quiet and scenic place to work and stay. In the year 2000 the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Government initiated the Programme of the permanent protection of Počitelj. It includes the protection of cultural heritage from deterioration, restoration of damaged and destroyed buildings, encouraging the return of the refugees and displaced persons to their homes and the long-term protection and revitalization of the Počitelj's historic urban area. The Programm is on-going. But lot of maintenance services in the public spaces and along the stone trials of the old town need volunteer action of its few inhabitants. 05-13 July Camp Structure and Activities The provided activities are about: - “Active citizenship” actions: working activities - Other events: public conference – sightseeing of surroundings Active citizenship actions - working activities - cleaning the environment of old fortress (citadel) and common parts of Počitelj - pruning bushes, cleaning weeds, cleaning trails, collecting the garbage Other events -round-table with representatives of National Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina for UNESCO which will present their activities and discussion about Agenda 21 for culture -mapping of local cultural and natural values -Sightseeing of Mostar, Blagaj, Kravice, Vjetrenica Cave, Stolac and Badanj Cave Accomodation Participants will have private accommodation in family houses in rooms with 2 or more beds with private and shared bathrooms. The meals will be prepared with the involvement of participants/volunteers in space of MLAZ - except certain days determined for trips.. Costs The camp is co-funded through contributes of volunteers to cover the costs of accommodation in Počitelj and food, local transport, organizational costs and insurance and it is fixed at 250,00 € per participant. Documents Identification card or passport is only required to enter into Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina - for citizens of EU or non-EU Countries. Times devoted to sightseeing of local natural and cultural values -Mostar Is situated on the Neretva river and is the fifth-largest city in the country. Mostar was named after the bridge keepers (natively:mostari) who in the medieval times guarded the Stari Most (Old Bridge) over Neretva river. The Old Bridge is one of the city's most recognizable landmarks: 28 meters long and 20 meters high, quickly became a wonder in its own time. The famous traveler Evliya Celebi wrote in the 17th century that: the bridge is like a rainbow arch soaring up to the skies, extending from one cliff to the other. ...I, a poor and miserable slave of Allah, have passed through 16 countries, but I have never seen such a high bridge. It is thrown from rock to rock as high as the sky. -Blagaj Is a village-town (kasaba) in the south-eastern region of the Mostar basin. It stands at the edge of Bišće plain and is one of the most valuable mixed urban and rural structures in Bosnia and Herzegovina.The natural and architectural ensemble of Blagaj is on the List proposed for world heritage patronage of UNESCO. It is situated at the spring of the Buna river (the biggest spring in Europe), where is also an historical tekke (tekija or Dervish monastery). The Blagaj Tekija was built around 1520, with elements of Ottoman architecture and Mediterranean style and is considered a national monument. -Kravice is a large waterfall located on a river Trebižat. Its height is about 25 meters and the radius of the lake in the base of the waterfall is 120 meters. It is very useful for people of this region especially during the summer season. -Vjetrenica Cave, which means "wind cave" or "blowhole", is on the Tentative List for UNESCO world heritage; it is the largest and the most important cave in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and one of the most interesting caves in the Dinaric Alps mountain range. In the warmer parts of the year a strong blast of cold air blows from its entrance, which is very attractive in the middle of the rocky, hot and waterless terrain. Stolac - Daorson ruins (Ancient Greek Δαορσών) was the capital of a Hellenised Illyrian tribe called the Daorsi (Ancient Greek Δαόριζοι, Δαούρσιοι; Latin Daorsei). The Daorsi lived in the valley of the Neretva River between 300 BC and 50 BC. The remainants of Daorson can be found at Ošanići, near Stolac. -Badanj Cave is a cave famous for its cave drawings dating between 12,000 - 16,000 b.C.; these are so much important historical values that the natural and architectural ensemble of Stolac is listed as UNESCO world heritage site. -Mogorjelo is a Roman villa rustica that dates from the early fourth century. It is situated on a hill off the Neretva branch, 5 km south of Čapljina, alongside the road to Gabela.
