The Pieridae (Lepidoptera: Rhopalocera) Fauna of Sarawak: Systematics and Distribution Boon Shiek Leng Program Sains dan Pengurusan Sumber Haiwan Fakulti Sains dan Teknologi Sumber Universiti Malaysia Sarawak ABSTRACT As shown by voucher specimens deposited at the Sarawak Museum, studies on the butterflies from the family Pieridae in Sarawak began during the 1800's. The present study was based on voucher specimens deposited in the Sarawak Museum, Sarawak Forest Corporation Research Centre and Unimas Museum. These represent specimens collected from 1893 to 2004. A total of 728 specimens were examined and evaluated. A systematic account of the species and distribution maps are provided .A total of 36 species of Pieridae from nine genera in the subfamily Pierinae and four genera in the subfamily Coliadinae is now known to occur in Sarawak. As revealed by this study, eleven Bornean species, namely E. alitha gradiens, D. blanca nausicaa, D. pasithoe angustifascia, A. albina albina, A. pandione whiteheadi, A. nepheles dilulior, U. cynis pryeri, P. nishiyamai alpha, C. iudith bela, A. lyncida balambangensis and A. paulina insularis are not known to occur in Sarawak. This study also reveals that seven of the Pierid species that has been documented as to occur only in North Borneo (Sabah) prior to this, is now also reported from Sarawak. These are D. henningia pandemia, D cinerascen, P. cornelia, P. vollenhovi, E. lacleola, E. sari sodalis and E. lominia nabalua. The butterflies of the family Pieridae are distributed throughout different types of forests in Sarawak and are mostly found in peat swamp forest, mixed-dipterocarp forest and secondary forest. 20 families of hosplants for the butterflies of the family Pieridae in Sarawak are revealed by this study. Further research on the butterflies of family Pieridae in Sarawak should be conducted for more detailed biological and ecological information. ABSTRAK Spesimen baucer yang lerkumpul di Muzium Sarcr.l'ak menunjukkan bahawa kajian rama-rama dari famili Pieridae di Sarawak bermula 1800an. Kajian ini adalah berdasarkan spesimen baucer yang lersimpan di Muzium Sarawak, Pusat Penyelidikan Korperasi Perhulanan Sarawak serla Muzium Unimas dari 1893 hingga 2004. Akaun sistemalik serla pela laburan disediakan. Sebanyak 728 spesimen lelah diperiksa dan direkodkan. Sejumlah 36 spesies rama-rama Pieridae dari 9 genera dalam subfamili Pierinae dan 4 genera dalam subfamili Coliadinae lelah didokumenlasikan. Menurul kajian ini, sebelas spesies Borneo didapali lidak wujud di Sarawak iailu; E. alitha gradiens, D. blanca nausicaa, D. pasilhoe anguslifascia, A. albina albina, A. pandione whiteheadi, A. nepheles dilulior, U. cynis pryeri, P. nishiyamai alpha, C. iudith beta, A. lyncida balambangensis dan A. paulina insular is manakala lujuh spesies yang dikenali hanya lerdapal di Sabah, kini dilaporkan di Sarawak iailll, D. henningia pandemia, D cinerascen, P. cornelia, P. vollenhovi, E. lac/eola, E. sari sodalis dan E. /ominia nabalua . Ram a-ram a famili Pieridae bertaburan di pelbagai jenis hu/an di seluruh Sarawak dan kebanyakannya di/emui di Hu/an Paya, Hutan Hujan Tropika dan Hu/an Sekunder.Didapa/i bahawa 20 jenis famili /umbuhan merupakan tumbuhan perumah rama-rama Pieridae di Sarawak Kajian lanju/an harus dijalankan un/uk mendapa/i informasi yang berkai/an dengan biologi dan ekologi rama-rama Pieridae. Ka/a kunci: Pieridae, Sarawak, baucer specimen, hu/an, /aburan. 1.0 Introduction Systematic studies of butterflies in Sarawak started during the colonial days, in the early 19th century. Most early works were published in the Sarawak Museum Journal and the Journal of the Malay Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society (Abang et at., 1996).

Testing the quality of the encyclopedia uses a checklist questionnaire and the results of the percentage of ideals from material experts are 91.1% with very good categories, 91.7% of media experts with very good categories, peer reviewers 92.27% with very good categories, biology teachers 88, 53% with a very good category and students 89.8% with a very good category.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui perbandingan pola peletakan telur E.blanda pada dua macam tanaman pakan larva. Dua spesies tanaman pakan yang di gunakan yaitu tanaman kaliandra (Calliandra surinamensis) dan tanaman ketepeng (Cassia alata). Penelitian ini di lakukan di Taman Kupu–kupu Gita Persada yang terletak di Gunung Betung, Kemiling, Bandar Lampung, Provinsi Lampung, yang di lakukan pada bulan Januari sampai Maret 2016. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu eksperimen dengan menggunakan 2 macam tanaman pakan larva yang masing-masing 10 polybag di letakkan berkelompok pada kandang penangkaran. Analisis data di lakukan dengan cara deskriptif kuantitatif dan uji independent samples test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kupu-kupu E. blanda meletakkan telur-telurnya secara berkelompok di daun termuda pada kedua tanaman pakan larvanya. Kelompok telur yang terdapat pada tanaman kaliandra dan tanaman ketepeng berbeda nyata (p = 0,007) setelah di uji menggunakan uji T. Kelompok telur pada kaliandra yaitu 1-3 kelompok dengan rata-rata jumlah telur per kelompok yaitu 31,50 ± 6,85 butir sedangkan pada tanaman ketepeng 1-2 kelompok dengan rata-rata jumlah telurnya yaitu 40,84 ± 11,02 butir.

Tara and Madhvi Gupta Department of Zoology, University of Jammu Jammu-180,006, India *Corresponding author: Anu Bala Abstract The present article incorporates detailed field observations of family Pieridae in Jammu region at different altitudes during spring, summer and autumn seasons of 2012-2013. The study revealed that 13 species of butterflies belonging to 10 genera of family Pieridae exist in the study area. Most members of Family Pieridae are white or yellow. Pieridae is a large family of butterflies with about 76 genera containing approximately 1,100 species mostly from tropical Africa and Asia. Keywords :Butterflies, India, Jammu, Pieridae. Introduction Jammu and Kashmir is the northernmost state of India. It consists of the district of Bhaderwah, Doda, Jammu, Kathua, Kishtwar, Poonch, Rajouri, Ramban, Reasi, Samba and Udhampur. Most of the area of the region is hilly and Pir Panjal range separates it from the Kashmir valley and part of the great Himalayas in the eastern districts of Doda and Kishtwar. The main river is Chenab. Jammu borders Kashmir to the north, Ladakh to the east and Himachal Pradesh and Punjab to the south. In east west, the line of control separates Jammu from the Pakistan region called POK. The climate of the region varies with altitude. The order Lepidoptera contains over 19,000 species of butterflies and 100,000 species of moths worldwide.

Keywords: Tujuan kajian ini adalah untuk menentukan keanekaragaman spesies kupu-kupu Banyuwindu superfamili Papilionoidae di Dukuh Banyuwindu Desa Limbangan Kabupaten Biodiversity Kendal, khususnya pada habitat hutan sekunder, pemukiman, daerah aliran sungai, Papilionoidae dan persawahan. Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode Abundance Point Index. Butterly Penelitian menunjukkan terdapat 62 spesies kupu-kupu superfamili Papilionoidae Papilionoidae, Pieridae, Lycaenidae, dan Nymphalidae. Indeks keanekaragaman jenisyang kupu-kuputerdiri dari superfamili737 individu Papilionoidae dan diklasiikasikan di Dukuh menjadi Banyuwindu empat berkisar famili dinamai antara 2,74-3,09, indeks kemerataan jenis berkisar antara 0,86-0,87 dan memiliki dominansi berkisar antara 0,07-0,09. Indeks keanekaragaman jenis dan indeks kemerataan jenis tertinggi tercatat pada habitat pemukiman yaitu 3,09 dan 0,87 sedangkan terendah tercatat pada habitat persawahan masing-masing sebesar 2,74 dan 0,86. Abstract: The life history of the Peacock pansy butterfly, Junonia almana and larval performance in terms of food consumption and utilization, and the length of life cycle on its host plant Ruellia tuberosa are described for the first time. The study was conducted during 2008 at Visakhapatnam (17o 42' N and 82 18' E), South India. Junonia almana completes its life cycle in 24.40 1.14 days (eggs 3, larvae, 15 – 16, pupa 5 – 7 days). The values of nutritional indices across the instars were AD (Approximate Digestibility) 44.10 – 95.87%; ECD (Efficiency of Conversion of Digested food) 1.48 – 34.00%; ECI (Efficiency of Conversion of Ingested food) 1.41 – 15.00%, measured at the temperature of 28 ± 20 C and RH of 80 ± 10% in the laboratory. These relatively high values of ECD and ECI explain at least partially the ecological success of J. almana in the present study environment.
