At the fifth meeting of the subcommittee on September 17, 1946, the members approved this proposal and agreed to the issuance of the quarterly report as one means of effecting better coordination of the work of various Federal agencies in the field of sedimentation. Quarterly reports were issued during the period of July 1, 1946, through June 30, 1947, when the reporting period was changed to a 6-month period, and semiannual reports were issued through 1953. Starting in 1954 and continuing through the present, these reports have been made annually and cover the activities of the Federal agencies in the field of sedi mentation on the calendar year basis. This report is a digest of information furnished by Federal agencies conducting sedimentation investigations on work in progress or planned, important findings, new methods, new publications, laboratory and other research activities, and other pertinent information. The material has been organized by major drainage regions in the conterminous United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and foreign. There is also a section on Research and Other Activities. In the past, each issue of "Notes on Sedimentation Activities" contalnec1 a list of stations at which sediment data have been obtained giving the station location, drainage area, and other related information. Because. the station list does not change significantly from year to year, the decision was made to include the listings every other year in the interest of economizing. Therefore, the station list in the 1977 issue is considered to be still current. An updated station listing will be included in the 19^ft issue. Information for "Notes on Sedimentation Activities" for calendar year 1978 was contributed by the representatives of participating Federal agencies. Suggestions for improving the report, both in content and in format, are welcome. ii CONTENTS Page_ Preface. ............................. ii Agencies Represented on the Subcommittee on Sedimentation. .... vi Agency Representative, Subcommittee on Sedimentation ....... vii New England Region Corps of Engineers ....................... 1 Geological Survey. ....................... 3 Soil Conservation Service. ................... 5 Mid Atlantic Region Corps of Engineers ....................... 6 Forest Service ......................... 8 Geological Survey. ....................... 9 Soil Conservation Service. ................... 13 South Atlantic-Gulf Region Corps of Engineers ....................... 14 Forest Service ......................... 18 Geological Survey. ....................... 20 Soil Conservation Service. ................... 25 Great Lakes Region Geological Survey. ....................... 27 Soil Conservation Service. ................... 31 Ohio Region Corps of Engineers ....................... 32 Forest Service ......................... 35 Geological Survey. ....................... 36 Soil Conservation Service. ................... 44 Tennessee Region Forest Service ......................... 45 Geological Survey. ....................... 46 Tennessee Valley Authority ................... 48 Upper Mississippi Region Corps of Engineers ....................... 49 Geological Survey. ....................... 57 Soil Conservation Service. ................... 64 Lower Mississippi Region Corps of Engineers ....................... 67 Forest Service ......................... 70 Geological Survey. ....................... 71 Soil Conservation. ....................... 74 Souris-Red-Rainy Region Corps of Engineers ....................... 75 Forest Service ......................... 75 Geological Survey. ....................... 76 Soil Conservation Service. ................... 78 Missouri River Region Bureau of Reclamation. ..................... 79 Corps of Engineers ....................... 80 Forest Service ......................... 84 Geological Survey. ....................... 85 Soil Conservation Service. ................... 97 iii Arkansas-White-Red Region Bureau of Reclamation. ..................... 99 Corps of Engineers ....................... 10C Forest Service ......................... 102 Geological Survey. ....................... 103 Soil Conservation Service. ................... 10 Texas-Gulf Region Corps of Engineers ....................... 11C Forest Service .........................
