Currently biomes are used in a few game settings, but not with a huge impact to gameplay. This idea aims to support greater variety, meaning to biomes and to help make worlds more "alive" as said by Brylie on the forum. 2.2 INTEREST My interest in this project comes from the fact that not many GSoC students are interested in it, so it definitely needs work as it is a very good idea for Terasology giving the game engine a unique feel to it. Also because I have worked very much with terrains, used World Machine, L3DT, Terresculptor terrain generators to generate climate based terrains. I am very interested as to how the world and life biomes could be improved in Terasology. 2.3 PROJECT FUNCTIONS 1. Inspection tool: When a player encounters a plant or animal, they might use an 'inspection' tool. It can show the details of the entity, we can use WordlyToolTip module to give such information. These details could include health, hunger, biome preferences, and genomic information for the inspected entity. 2. Transplant/Transport: Plants and animals can be transplanted between biomes. Animals could be transplanted using the GooKeeper module as a catch-and-release tool. -

John Henry Warburton Master of Philosophy Southampton Solent University Faculty of Media, Arts and Society July 2010 Tutor Mike Richards 3 of 3 Picture Radio: Will pictures, with the change to digital, transform radio? By John Henry Warburton Abstract This work looking at radio over the last 80 years and digital radio today will consider picture radio, one way that the recently introduced DAB1 terrestrial digital radio could be used. Chapter one considers the radio history including early picture radio and television, plus shows how radio has come from the crystal set, with one pair of headphones, to the mains powered wireless with built in speakers. These radios became the main family entertainment in the home until television takes over that role in the mid 1950s. Then radio changed to a portable medium with the coming of transistor radios, to become the personal entertainment medium it is today. Chapter two and three considers the new terrestrial digital mediums of DAB and DRM2 plus how it works, what it is capable of plus a look at some of the other digital radio platforms. Chapter four examines how sound is perceived by the listener and that radio broadcasters will need to understand the relationship between sound and vision. We receive sound and then make pictures in the mind but to make sense of sound we need codes to know what it is and make sense of it. Chapter five will critically examine the issues of commercial success in radio and where pictures could help improve the radio experience as there are some things that radio is restricted to as a sound only medium. -

Enabled by uptake of the international standard Common Alerting Protocol, all manner of communications networks can now be leveraged to get alerts to everyone who needs them, wherever they are and whatever they are doing. With these new capabilities, it is clear that many lives can be saved and livelihoods protected as emergency alerting becomes more available, more precise, more reliable, completely secure, and as fast as it can be. Context Getting Public Warnings to People Online To help disseminate public warnings, alerting authorities have long relied on commercial media, such as newswires, broadcast radio and television. Television stations insert "crawl text" with the warning message; radio stations insert a recording. This public-private collaboration has required huge investments in specialized technology. Now people are using cell phones and online media more and more. Do societies worldwide need a new round of huge investments in specialized technology to get warnings to all these people online? Actually, huge new investments are not needed. Online media and alerting authorities already developed ways to get warnings to cell phones and people online, at minimal cost. The Hazard App developed by the Red Cross Global Disaster Preparedness Center (GDPC) is one example. As part of the Universal App Program, GDPC partners with Red Cross and Red Crescent national societies to develop First Aid and Hazard alerting apps.
