Reason: In the interests of preserving the amenity of neighbouring residents, in compliance with Policy EN6 of the Allerdale Local Plan. Page 3 2. Noise emanating from the premises shall not exceed NR 40 when measured at the location identified on the attached noise monitoring location plan dated 3 July 2008. Reason: To safeguard local residents from noise and disturbance, in compliance with Policy EN6 of the Allerdale Local Plan. 3. No repair works to vehicles shall take place other than within the building identified as the workshop area on the plan. Reason: To safeguard local residents from noise and disturbance, in compliance with Policy EN6 of the Allerdale Local Plan. 4. Any facilities for the storage of oils, fuels or chemicals shall be sited on impervious bases and surrounded by impervious bund walls, details of which shall be submitted to the Local Planning Authority for approval. The volume of the bunded compound should be at least equivalent to the capacity of the tank plus 10%. If there is multiple tankage, the compound should be at least equivalent to 110% the capacity of the largest tank, or 25% of the total combined capacity of interconnected tanks whichever is the greatest. All filling points, vents, gauges and sight glasses must be located within the bund. The drainage system of the bund shall be sealed with no discharge to any watercourse, land or underground strata. Associated pipework should be located above ground and protected from accidental damage. All filling points and tank overflow pipe outlets should be detailed to discharge downwards into the bund. Reason: To prevent pollution of the water environment, in compliance with Policy EN6 of the Allerdale Local Plan. 5. There shall be no storage of liquefied petroleum gas within the site without the prior written approval of the Local Planning Authority. Reason: To ensure that any storage of liquefied petroleum gas complies with health and safety guidelines and to ensure no ancillary use of the site as a fuel filling station. Page 4 6. The use hereby approved shall solely be operated by the occupier of ‘South View’, the neighbouring property. Reason: To safeguard the future residential amenity of occupiers of ‘South View’ and neighbouring residential properties, in compliance with EN6 of the Allerdale Local Plan. 7. An attempt has been made to view the archaeological data within the broad framework provided by environmental, historical and onomastic studies. Chapters 1-3 assess the current state of knowledge in these fields in Cumbria, and provide an introduction to the archaeological evidence, presented and discussed in Chapters ^--8, and set out in Appendices 5-10.

West Cumberland Hospital (WCH) Update – John Howarth – North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust Phase 2 of the WCH redevelopment includes old buildings removal – this has cost £4.5 million for demolition works. Most of the buildings to come down are now empty – this will take place from November 2019 until August 2020. The investment in the new building is more efficient than keeping the old buildings. E Block will be refurbished as part of the investment. Phase 3 will include the building of 130 student rooms to house the University of Central Lancashire (ULCAN) medical school which will be onsite. There will be an increasing numbers of courses including Physician Associates, Masters and pre-medical courses for those who do not have the right qualifications for medical school. The west site will have the investment of a new teaching centre. It will be a challenge to get the capital to keep the teaching centre running but we are meeting to agree long-term commitments and how it will be funded.

He presented an interesting insight into his early days and identified just five others who had lived all their lives in the village, from about the same time. This talk stimulated discussion into the fact that the history of the village had never been recorded. So from it a Papcastle Local History Group was formed with the intention of recovering as much as possible and with the expectation of publishing at least a small volume. By the autumn of 2008, it was clear that a major decision was needed - whether to publish what had been discovered so far or to hold off for some distant date when many more months, or possibly years of painstaking research might have been done. That would require regular trips to the Records Offices and not inconsiderable expense. This book is therefore a first edition, and one day may be superseded by a superior fresh and much extended edition.

At the beginning of the period the authority of the Crown was offset by powerful aristocratic interests in many regional areas. By the mid sixteenth century feudal relationships were giving way to a centrally controlled administration and government was reaching into regional political communities through direct connections between the Crown and local gentlemen. This thesis will trace these developments in Cumberland and Westmorland. It will argue that archaic aspects of government and society lingered longer here than in regions closer London. Feudal relationships were significant influences on regional political society well beyond the mid sixteenth century. This was a consequence of the area's distance from the centre of government and its proximity to a hostile enemy.

Many members will remember the talk which Dr Michael Winstanley gave in May 2013 on Thomas Allom, and so I was pleased to receive an exposition of Allom’s illustrations of our local scenes. It is a co- incidence that the article which Michael and I wrote in 2009 about Isabella Huxtable, nee Nixon, is also followed up in this article. This follows family research by Blair Nixon from Canada, a descendant of the Lorton Nixons, who read our Journal online. Our cover image (it will be in colour on the website) of Scale Force by Thomas Allom is by courtesy of the Wordsworth Trust, which has kindly supported a number of our projects over the years. Welcome to our Autumn Newsletter We are delighted to share with you our Autumn newsletter and would like to welcome all the new families who have registered with Allerdale Children’s Centres over the Summer, as well as our existing families. It has been great that you have been able to join us at groups and events over the last few months and we look forward to seeing you again soon. Within our newsletter you can find lots of information about sessions and activities available in your local community. Look out for our new ‘Young Parents Time Together’ sessions that are being held across the Allerdale Children’s Centres in the coming months. Upon registering with Allerdale Children’s Centres, you will be entered into a prize draw to win a family activity voucher of your choice. This edition’s prize winner!! Our most recent draw took place in July and the lucky winners were Joanne and Mason who chose a voucher for a local farm park at Mawbray. We hope they enjoy their day out.
