Abstract: The morphogenesis of Titelski breg, in the relevant literature of earlier invesigators, was in- terpreted on two different ways. One group considered that Danube separated Titelski breg from the Srem loess plateau by cutting across its meander neck (Wolf, Halavats, Gorjanovic, Cvijic, Laskarev, as autors of this ar- ticle), whilst another group took a stand that Titelski breg had been always isolated, with similar morphogene- sis as Srem loess plateau (Milojevic, Markovic-Marjanovic and Bukurov). So, in this article, we try to present sufficiant details and informations to accurately depict the origin, development and geomorphologic relationships in the area, that designate how was Titelski breg separated from Srem loess plateau. Key words: morphogenesis, Srem loess plateau, Titelski breg mound, Serbia Titelski breg predstavqa uzvi{icu koja se, nedaleko od u{}a Tise u Dunav, uzdi`e oko 40 — 50 metara iznad okolnog ni`eg terena podru~ja [ajka{ke.

REBOLEIRA1 AND HENRIK ENGHOFF2 Abstract: Millipedes play an important role in the decomposition of organic matter in the subterranean environment. Despite the existence of several cave-adapted species of millipedes in adjacent geographic areas, their study has been largely ignored in Portugal. Over the last decade, intense fieldwork in caves of the mainland and the island of Madeira has provided new data about the distribution and diversity of millipedes. A review of millipedes from caves of Portugal is presented, listing fourteen species belonging to eight families, among which six species are considered troglobionts. The distribution of millipedes in caves of Portugal is discussed and compared with the troglobiont biodiversity in the overall Iberian Peninsula and the Macaronesian archipelagos. • On the Example of Kosovo and Metohija Under the Ottoman Rule
Annals of the Academy of Romanian Scientists Series on History and Archaeology ISSN 2067-5682 Volume 8, Number 2/2016 9 MIGRATIONS AS A CONSTANT OF THE SERBIAN HISTORY: ON THE EXAMPLE OF KOSOVO AND METOHIJA UNDER THE OTTOMAN RULE ∗ ∗∗ Ema MILJKOVI Ć , Ionu Ń COJOCARU Abstract: The results of the Ottoman census books for the Brankovi ć Region, i.e., the sanjaks (provinces) of Vu čitrn, Skadar and Dukadjin dating from the second half of the 15 th and 16 lh century, placed in the context of the general political and historical events in the Ottoman Empire, present some of the most valuable sources for the research of demographic movements in Kosovo and Metohija during the first two centuries of the Ottoman rule. Those data show the ethnic homogenity of the Serbian population of present-day Kosovo and Metohija in the above-mentioned historical period. The ethnic structure of Kosovo and Metohija radically changed immediately after the Great Migration of the Serbs in 1690, when the Serbian population left this region, and their settlements were occupied by Albanian nomadic tribes, who descended into these fertile lands from the harsh mountain regions of northern Albania. Although this issue has not been satisfactorily elaborated in historical science so far, the available sources make it possible to draw some firm conclusions about the forcibly changed ethnic structure of Kosovo and Metohija, beginning with the 18 th century, when an Albanian settlement network was established in a region that had a majority Serbian population during medieval times and the first centuries of the Ottoman rule.

Abstract Detailed distribution pattern of colubrid snakes in Serbia is still inadequately described, despite the long historical study. In this paper, we provide accurate distribution of seven species, with previously published and newly accumulated faunistic records compiled. Comparative analysis of faunas among all Balkan countries showed that Serbian colubrid fauna is among the most distinct (together with faunas of Slovenia and Romania), due to small number of species. Zoogeographic analysis showed high chorotype diversity of Serbian colubrids: seven species belong to six chorotypes. South-eastern Serbia (Pčinja River valley) is characterized by the presence of all colubrid species inhabiting our country, and deserves the highest conservation status at the national level.

  • Some Aspects of the Ecology of Millipedes (Diplopoda) Thesis
Some Aspects of the Ecology of Millipedes (Diplopoda) Thesis Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Master of Science in the Graduate School of The Ohio State University By Monica A. Farfan, B.S. Graduate Program in Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology The Ohio State University 2010 Thesis Committee: Hans Klompen, Advisor John W. Wenzel Andrew Michel Copyright by Monica A. Farfan 2010 Abstract The focus of this thesis is the ecology of invasive millipedes (Diplopoda) in the family Julidae. This particular group of millipedes are thought to be introduced into North America from Europe and are now widely found in many urban, anthropogenic habitats in the U.S. Why are these animals such effective colonizers and why do they seem to be mostly present in anthropogenic habitats? In a review of the literature addressing the role of millipedes in nutrient cycling, the interactions of millipedes and communities of fungi and bacteria are discussed. The presence of millipedes stimulates fungal growth while fungal hyphae and bacteria positively effect feeding intensity and nutrient assimilation efficiency in millipedes. Millipedes may also utilize enzymes from these organisms. In a continuation of the study of the ecology of the family Julidae, a comparative study was completed on mites associated with millipedes in the family Julidae in eastern North America and the United Kingdom. The goals of this study were: 1. To establish what mites are present on these millipedes in North America 2. To see if this fauna is the same as in Europe 3. To examine host association patterns looking specifically for host or habitat specificity.

  • Gorani, with Meaning Highlanders, Are Islamic Ethnic Group, Which Inhabits the Gora Region, Located Between Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia
Gorani, with meaning Highlanders, are Islamic ethnic group, which inhabits the Gora region, located between Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia. Another autonym of this people is "Našinci" with literally meaning "our people". They are also known among the neighbouring Albanians with several exonyms, "Torbeshë" and "Poturë". They speak the Gora dialect, which is known by many Gorani as "Našinski". The Gora region comprises Dragaš municipality in Kosovo, Shishtavec municipality in Albania and the area around the Šar Mountains in Macedonia. They are adherents to Islam and have a rich and varied folk culture. They have been claimed by Bosniaks, Serbs, Bulgarians and recently Macedonians, but the general view is that they should be treated as a distinct minority group. Part of these people are already albanised. By the last censusses at the end of 20th century in Yugoslavia they have declared themselves to be Muslims by nationality. In Republic of Macedonia their identity is also based mainly on their religion. Etymology The word Gora is a the traditional term for the region, it means "Mountains" or "Highlands". In the Gora dialect the "Mountain people" or "Highlanders" are known as Goranci (Cyrillic: Горанци), this is often transliterated into English simply as "Gorani" or "Gorans" History Gora is the region inhabited by the Gorani, and also that which peoples (including Gorani themselves) and many Albanians use to identify the native people (Gorani). The region, Gora, is mentioned in 1348 in the edict of Serbian Emperor Stefan Dušan, along with seven other Gorani-populated villages that were subsumed by the Monastery of Saint Archangel at Prizren at that time.
