This year, Engineers Week is celebrated from February 16th – 22nd. Founded by the National Society of Professional Engineers in 1951, EWeek is dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well- educated future engineering workforce by increasing the understanding of, and the interest in, engineering and technology careers.

The year’s year theme is “Be a Pioneer of Progress.” 74% of Educators agree that students don’t have many chances to meet Engineers. We can change that. Talk to students about engineering, do hands-on activities, or display the Engineers Week poster which can be downloaded from here: http://www.discovere.org/our-programs/engineers-week

I have my 7th/8th grade home room teacher, science teacher, and basketball and volleyball coach, Mr. Sementi to thank for introducing me to Engineering. I recently found out he is retiring after 31 years with the West Valley School District and know he influenced several others towards careers in engineering throughout his career.

YMF is organizing our fourth annual Office Crawl for February 14, 2020. Companies that sponsor YMF are able to participate and showcase their businesses to students, letting them explore first hand as soon-to-be graduates.

Our Annual Awards and Student Recognition Banquet is Thursday, March 12th, 2020 at the Silver Legacy. Platinum and Gold Sponsors, please be sure to go onto the website and enter the names of those attending so we can make name tags. There is still time to purchase tables. See registration form attached in this newsletter.

Be sure to recognize the outstanding projects and engineers. Nominations for Young Engineer of the Year, Engineer of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, and Project of the Year in 3 categories, Environmental, Structural/Geotechnical, and Transportation are due February 7th. Forms are included in this newsletter.
