Programme ARTikulationen 2017 Introduction 2 Research Festival Programme 4 Thursday, 5 October 2017 6 Friday, 6 October 2017 29 Saturday, 7 October 2017 43 Further Doctoral Researchers (Dr. artium), Internal Supervisors and External Advisors 51 Artistic Doctoral School: Team 68 Venues and Public Transport 69 Credits 70 Contact and Partners 71 1 Introduction ARTikulationen. A Festival of Artistic Research (Graz, 5–7 October 2017) Artistic research is currently a much-talked about and highly innovative field of know- ledge creation which combines artistic with academic practice. One of its central features is ambitious artistic experiments exploring musical and other questions, systematically bringing them into dialogue with reflection, analysis and other academic approaches. ARTikulationen, a two-and-a-half day festival of artistic research that has been running under that name since 2016, organised by the Artistic Doctoral School (KWDS) of the Uni- versity of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG), expands the pioneering format deve- loped by Ulf Bästlein and Wolfgang Hattinger in 2010, in which the particular moment of artistic research – namely audible results, which come about through a dynamic between art and scholarship that is rooted in methodology – becomes something the audience can understand and experience. In Alfred Brendel, Georg Friedrich Haas and George Lewis, the festival brings three world- famous and influential personalities and thinkers from the world of music to Graz as key- note speakers. George Lewis will combine his lecture with a version of his piece for soloist and interactive grand piano. The presentations at ARTikulationen encompass many different formats such as keynotes, lecture recitals, guest talks, poster presentations and a round table on practices in artistic research. -
First Comprehensive Publication About the BMW Art Car Collection a Richly Illustrated Overview of the History of the Legendary BMW Art Cars
Corporate Communications Media Information February 17, 2014 First comprehensive publication about the BMW Art Car Collection A richly illustrated overview of the history of the legendary BMW Art Cars Munich. The BMW Group and publisher Hatje Cantz are pleased to present the first comprehensive publication about the legendary BMW Art Cars. The richly illustrated book presents a unique overview of the history of this automotive collection, launched in 1975, and designed by major modern and contemporary artists. Various portraits and interviews provide an insight into their creative processes while giving a descriptive account of the historical development of the collection. For over 40 years, the BMW Art Car Collection has fascinated art and design enthusiasts as well as lovers of cars and technology the world over with its unique combination of fine art and innovative automobile technology. The collection first started when French race car driver and art aficionado Hervé Poulain, together with Jochen Neerpasch, then BMW Motorsport Director, asked his artist friend Alexander Calder to design an automobile. The result was a BMW 3.0 CSL which in 1975 competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where it quickly became the crowd’s favourite: the birth of the BMW Art Car Collection. Since then 17 international artists have designed BMW models, among them some of the most renowned artists of our time: Alexander Calder (1975), Frank Stella (1976), Roy Lichtenstein (1977), Andy Warhol (1979), Ernst Fuchs (1982), Robert Rauschenberg (1986), Michael Jagamara Nelson (1989), Ken Done (1989), Matazo Kayama (1990), César Manrique (1990), A. R. Penck (1991), Esther Mahlangu (1991), Sandro Chia (1992), David Hockney (1995), Jenny Holzer (1999), Olafur Eliasson (2007), Jeff Koons (2010). -

Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor were married for the first time in Montreal. Nelson Mandela and seven others were sentenced to life imprisonment in South Africa and sent to the Robben Island prison. The IBM 360 mainframe computer was the talk of the computer world while the IBM Selectric typewriter was the mainstay of every modern office. In 1964, BMW was in the midst of its rebirth with the Neue Klasse 1800 automobile and variants. BMW motorcycles included the R27, R50/2, R60/2 and R69S. All wonderful and valuable vehicles sought after today by collectors worldwide, but a far cry from the imposing and sophisticated machines that BMW is building today, fifty years later. Fifty years is a long time. And so it is remarkable that in 2014 we are celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of BMW Clubs in Japan – years and years of continuous support for BMW enthusiasts. The first Japanese BMW Club was founded as a bureau of the Balcom Trading Company, the importer at the time. In 1979, the club became a founding member of BMW Clubs International Council. In 1981, the BMW Japan Corporation was founded and the club moved its office to the new corporation. -
