Some of the things Conway mentioned were the fact that she only had to take one math class— something that many of the students appreciated. The tour guide also mentioned aspects of living away from home and the flexibility students have in designing their schedules. Mecca, a student in Conway’s group, commented that they only had two minutes between classes at Myers Middle School. She was astounded to learn that there are a whole 10 minutes between classes at UAlbany. After the tour, Josiah, a participating student, said that UAlbany “is bigger than any university that I’ve ever seen.” He had a hard time finding the clue for the dorm room, simply because he had never seen a dorm room before. Like many other students, searching for clues was his favorite part. One thing that students learned is that they will have the opportunity to choose their classes, as a student Saja pointed out. Although the students experienced a fun aspect of college, they also learned that studying is important to succeed. “It’s refreshing to see that some of these kids are excited about college,” Piché said. During the tour, the middle schoolers asked different questions than what other people on tours usually ask. Piché said that these questions and his experience with the middle schoolers will help him be even more prepared for whatever questions may arise on regular tours. Over the course of the past month, Nadine Zaky Kotb and Piché planned the tour, ensuring that “everything was perfect,” according to Kotb. This involved coordinating Damien Dane’s appearance through Campus Involvement, checking in with athletics to clear the use of Casey Stadium, and even talking with interim president, James Stellar. Kotb also recruited 13 volunteers to hand out the clues at various locations on campus. The volunteers were fulfilling service for Alpha Phi Omega, a service fraternity to which Kotb is pledging. Myers Middle School is part of the City School District of Albany. The school houses students from 6th grade to 8th grade. Each scavenger hunt group had approximately 10 middle school students, one chaperone, and one tour guide. In the two weeks leading up to the tour, Kotb felt a mound of pressure, especially with last-minute changes that prompted a rearranging of groups. Now that it is over, Kotb is relieved that her hard work paid off and that she was able to provide a service to middle school students by giving them the opportunity to discover what awaits them at college.

FOOTBALL Blue Hens Best Danes, Win 32-17

By BRENDAN SMITH

On Military Appreciation Day at Tom and Mary Casey Sta- dium, the University at Albany Great Danes welcomed fellow CAA foe Delaware. A game that started promising for the Great Danes quickly took a turn for the worse after the first quarter. UAlbany came out strong after receiving the opening kickoff, as a 32-yard completion from Neven Sussman to Austin Ellis on third down put the Danes in Delaware territory early in the drive. However, Delaware junior defensive lineman Aaron Donal- son batted down Sussman’s third down pass attempt from the Delaware 19-yard line, which set up a 36-yard Ethan Stark field goal to give Albany a quick 3-0 lead. After a first down two plays into their opening drive, the Blue Hens were forced to punt. Sussman lead the offense back on the field, looking to extend the lead.
