Featuring six different visual artists with various media and approaches, this latest installment of art at Carroll Museums explored the essence of summer as a child. Bring your own or use get involved one of ours. ** while supplies last Doors Open Baltimore: Phoenix Shot Tower — October 25th 10am-4pm The Phoenix Shot Tower will participate in the Baltimore Architectural Foundation’s Doors Open Baltimore. This one-day, free event introduces people to buildings which they may pass, but rarely have the opportunity to enter. Additionally, the event is intended to enhance public appreciation of architecture and the built environment around us. Events such as Doors Open take place in cities across the world, and for the first time, Baltimore will be participating, with a theme of Industrial Baltimore. Through this theme, the public will learn more about buildings connected to Baltimore's industrial heritage and continuing legacy, and will explore industrial buildings now adapted to new uses. Carroll Mansion will once again welcome the Mount Washington Garden Club to dress the house in fresh greens and dried flowers, creating a beautiful backdrop for our holiday events, including special tours, programs, gifts, and workshops. Fall and Holiday Wreath Making Workshops with Jody Jewell Come learn how to construct the perfect wreath for any season! Join floral expert Jody Jewell on Saturday October 11 from 9am-11am for a Fall Wreath-Making Workshop at the Mansion. Be sure to return on Saturday, December 6 from 9am- 11am to complete your winter decorating with a Holiday Wreath-Making Workshop. Jody will personally coach participants through the fun and challenging process of creating their own seasonal wreath. Workshop fee includes floral supplies and light refreshments. Workshop Fee: $35/person, $30/member To register, please call 410-605-2964 Local Arts and Crafts– The Perfect Gifts During the month of December, the Art Gallery at Carroll Museums will team up with Gallery 788 of Hampden to display Baltimore’s artistic talent. Gallery 788 is quickly becoming one of Baltimore’s premier art galleries. In addition to their home in Hampden, Gallery 788 has done multiple showings at host venues, including an ongoing partnership with Baltimore City Hall. In conjunction with the exhibit reception, Carroll Museums will hold a Holiday Multiples fair! Come peruse goods ranging from jewelry to fine art prints, perfect for gifts during the holidays. Carroll Museums Broadsheet Page 4 Art at Carroll Museums Majestic Waterfowl: Art and Artifacts of the Chesapeake The wildlife art of Paul Treadway comes to life as the Carroll Museums partners with the Havre de Grace Decoy Museum. Historic, decorative, and working decoys will be on display in the Carroll Mansion Art Gallery along with original drawings by wildlife artist Paul Treadway. Save the dates! Opening reception of Majestic Waterfowl: Friday, 9/5/14, 6- 8pm. Free. Drawing workshop with Paul Treadway: Realism and the Pencil: Saturday, 9/27/14, 10am-12pm. Workshop Fee: $35/person, $30/member Free State at the Peale Carroll Museums is proud to host Free State at the Peale, the first annual art exhibit by the newly reestablished Peale Center for Baltimore History and Architecture. This November, The Peale Center, formerly the historic Peale Museum, will curate a collection of contemporary artists throughout the Carroll Mansion to help raise funds to restore and reopen this Baltimore landmark. The Peale Center is currently accepting art submissions for Free State! Check out www.thepealecenter.org for details. Deadline September 1, 2014. Join us for the opening reception of Free State at the Peale on Saturday November 1 from 7:30pm-9:30pm at the Carroll Mansion. VIP hour for donors from 6:30pm-7:30pm. Words at Carroll Museums June marked another incredible installment of Carroll Museums’ regular literary events. Midsummer: A Literary Tea, offered work ranging from spoken word to cut-out poems from local artists and writers Tyler Vile, Dina Varsalone, and Robin Gunkle. Words at Carroll Museums continues to offer performances highlighting the diverse breadth of literary artists in the Baltimore area. With inspiration from the Carroll Mansion’s time as a Supporters printmaking vocational school, children are invited to come make posters using various printing materials.
