Harry's Music Harry’s Music Although Harry’s song list spans more than 4 decades, this sample list of songs represents where Harry came from musically. Most of these songs have played a big role in his development and mindset over many years. All of them bring back great memories of friends and places. More recently he has added some great country songs into his shows, such as songs by Keith Urban, Chris Stapleton, and Thomas Rhett. He cut an album of originals over ten years ago, called “Traynham, Goddard, Cornett,” with Alan Cornett and longtime friend and bass man, Brian Goddard. Many of the cuts were written by Traynham and Goddard. The project was recorded in Boston and the stress of travel and deadlines was too much to handle. At this point, no followup recordings have been planned, but you can listen to the album in the audio section of the website (coming soon). The stage is where the magic is for Harry and that's the way it's always been. 1982 Fleetnotes via FMLegacy ! Sept. 4, 1982 – Orlando, FL Loverboy, John Cougar (no Mellencamp yet) and John Waite (playing his big hit ‘Change’) opened for The Mac. A fan recalls John Cougar riding on Kenny Aranoff’s shoulders during ‘Hurts So Good’. During the Loverboy set, it was so hot that security had to spray the crowd with firehoses. When the Mac played Gypsy virtually the enKre crowd lit their cigareLe lighters. Stevie didn’t finish the !song because she was too emoKonal that night. Sept. 5, 1982 – San Bernardino, CA The band closed the third and final day of the US FesKval by playing their Mirage set. The order of arKsts on the bill was as follows: Grateful Dead, Jerry Jeff Walker, Jimmy Buffet, Jackson Browne, and then Fleetwood Mac. This was also the last Kme that Mick Fleetwood saw Stevie’s friend Robin Anderson, who later passed away from leukaemia. She was very ill at the show and had to be !helicoptered out of the venue. INFORMATION TO USERS This material was produced from a microfilm copy of the original document. While the most advanced technological means to photograph and reproduce this document have been used, the quality is heavily dependent upon the quality of the original submitted. The following explanation of techniques is provided to help you understand markings or patterns which may appear on this reproduction. 1. The sign or "target" for pages apparently lacking from the document photographed is "Missing Page(s)". If it was possible to obtain the missing page(s) or section, they are spliced into the film along with adjacent pages. This may have necessitated cutting thru an image and duplicating adjacent pages to insure you complete continuity. 2. When an image on the film is obliterated with a large round black mark, it is an indication that the photographer suspected that the copy may have moved during exposure and thus cause a blurred image. You will find a good image of the page in the adjacent frame. 3. When a map, drawing or chart, etc., was part of the material being photographed the photographer followed a definite method in "sectioning" the material. It is customary to begin photoing at the upper left hand corner of a large sheet and to continue photoing from left to right in equal sections with a small overlap. If necessary, sectioning is continued again — beginning below the first row and continuing on until complete. 4. The majority of users indicate that the textual content is of greatest value, however, a somewhat higher quality reproduction could be made from "photographs" if essential to the understanding of the dissertation.

It might apply to the weight of your take on the blues, as with Fleetwood Mac or Led Zeppelin. It might mean the originality of Jethro Tull or King Crimson. It might equally apply to an individual- to Eric Clapton, for example, The Beatles are the saints of the 1960s, and George Harrison an especially "heavy person". This year, heavy people flock together. Clapton and Steve Winwood join up in Blind Faith. Steve Marriott and Pete Frampton meet in Humble Pie. Crosby, Stills and Nash admit a new member, Neil Young. Supergroups, or more informal supersessions, serve as musical summit meetings for those who are reluctant to have theirwork tied down by the now antiquated notion of the "group". Trouble of one kind or another this year awaits the leading examples of this classic formation. Our cover stars The Rolling Stones this year part company with founder member Brian Jones. The Beatles, too, are changing - how, John Lennon wonders, can the group hope to contain three contributing writers? The Beatles diversification has become problematic.

  • Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975)”—The Eagles (1976) Added to the Registry: 2016 Essay by Marc Eliot (Guest Post)*
“Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975)”—The Eagles (1976) Added to the Registry: 2016 Essay by Marc Eliot (guest post)* The Eagles In 1971, the arrival of The Eagles signaled a major shift in popular musical tastes in America. If Woodstock was the funeral for both the music and the culture of a decade of drugged out, hippie, free love and cultish idealism, the Seventies was the decade of blatant decadence, political cynicism, sexual distrust, and rampant narcissism. No band represented both the rejection of the Sixties and the celebration of the Seventies more than its crown princes, the Eagles. Songs like “Lyin’ Eyes,” “Witchy Woman,” “One of These Nights,” and “Already Gone,” filled with spirited playing, close harmonies and an overlay of the Eagles’ war between the sexes, comprise four of the ten selections included in the initial compilation of Eagles’ hit songs from their first four albums, “Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975).” Ironically, although the Eagles’ laid-back sound was bright and natural as Southern California sunshine, none of the original four members were Golden State natives (Don Henley, vocalist, lyricist, drummer, was from Texas, bred on bluegrass and country music; Glenn Frey, vocalist, lyricist, rhythm guitar, pianist, came from the streets of Detroit, influenced by the music of Motown and mentored by Bob Seger; Randy Meisner, on bass, was a veteran bar band night sider out of Nebraska; Bernie Leadon, guitar, mandolin, banjo, was a Minnesotan who loved and loved to play classic country). Each migrated separately to Los Angeles, like lemmings, to The Troubadour, the musical and cultural ground zero club on Santa Monica Boulevard, owned and operated by Doug Weston, who favored putting on his stage country-rock bands and female vocalists.

  • Living Tradition
Jesus Is Just Alright With Me April 13, 2014 Rev. John L. Saxon I This past year, Karla and I have been preaching a series of sermons on the six sources of what we call the “living tradition” of our Unitarian Universalist faith: direct experience of that transcending mystery and wonder, affirmed in all cultures, that moves us to a renewal of the spirit and an openness to the forces that create and uphold life; words and deeds of prophetic women and men that challenge us to confront powers and structures of evil with justice, compassion, and the transforming power of love; wisdom from the world’s religions which inspires us in our ethical and spiritual life; humanist teachings that counsel us to heed the guidance of reason and the results of science, warning us against the idolatries of mind and spirit; and spiritual teachings of earth-centered traditions that celebrate the sacred circle of life and instruct us to live in harmony with the rhythms of nature. But wait! That’s just five!!! There’s one more! I wonder what it could be? Let me think. (Pause.) Oh, now I remember! It’s Jewish and Christian teachings that call us to respond to God’s love by loving our neighbors as ourselves. II Now let’s face it. Claiming Jewish and Christian—especially Christian—teachings as one of the sources of Unitarian Universalism makes some UUs more than a little bit uncomfortable. There’s more than a little bit of truth in the joke that the only time you hear a UU say “Jesus Christ” is when she spills hot coffee in her lap during coffee hour on Sunday.

  • Eric Clapton
