Principal’s Foreword 2018 has seen us maintain our enrolment of 1400 students from Kindergarten through to Year 12. We have continued to go from strength to strength in the academic, sporting and cultural arenas of College life. Much of this has been made possible by the wonderful partnership we have between the home and the school. As a College we have been blessed with the support provided by our parents in so many facets of College life. As a measure of our appreciation we would like to return some of that support to our parent body by increasing the Sheldon College network. Whenever your family requires something, reference to our College Directory will immediately provide you with the names of parent suppliers who can meet your needs. Why not give our Sheldon College family first opportunity to assist you with your personal requirements? As a result, our College Community will benefit and flourish. Sheldon College is a College that believes in the benefits of the home and the school working together to provide the very best educational outcomes we can for our students. Your support of our College Directory would be very much appreciated, and no doubt, will enhance the overall capacity of our College to become one of the finest educational institutions in the State.

2 2018 2018 3 Introduction WELCOME TO OUR FRESCO DIRECTORY 2018 The FRESCO Directory has been successfully connecting Sheldon College families since 2000. The Directory is a comprehensive reference for our College community. It is also an easy way to keep in touch and is beneficial to both our advertisers and the College community. Listings are under the Student Surnames and all Sheldon College families are invited to be listed in the Directory to make contacting one another easy. Mobiles are listed as (M) for Mother and (F) for Father. The FRESCO Directory is also a products and services Directory which contains many special offers to encourage College family and local business networking. The free distribution of the FRESCO Directory is only possible through the generous support received from the advertisers. We encourage you all to consider and consult our advertisers when you are next looking to make a purchase or organise a quotation. Please contact Ms Ally Koller in the Marketing Office for any advertising enquiries on 07 3206 5516. Visit our College Website to see the online Directory and take advantage of the Special Offers listed therein. Please let our advertisers know you found them in the FRESCO Directory. Ms Ally Koller, FRESCO Directory Co-ordinator. Sheldon College Foundation BUILDING FOUNDATIONS TODAY FOR TOMORROW’S SUCCESS. Great schools have a proud and noble history. Our College Community at Sheldon College has the privilege of creating history daily and establishing the traditions that are Sheldon College and will become our College heritage in the future. The development of our College is based on collaborative partnerships with our College Community whereby Together Each Achieves More Success. Our College parents and wider community are actively involved in planning the educational future of our students. PURPOSE The Sheldon College Foundation was established to facilitate the development of alternative sources of funding; to assist in providing state-of-the-art educational facilities, and to enhance the College’s excellent academic programs and resources. The Sheldon College Board, Academic Staff, Parents and Friends understand the need for a greater reliance on private and corporate sources of funding, as traditional sources of Government funding cannot be relied upon in the future to meet the ever increasing demands of schools. The Foundation enables the College to continually develop the unique learning environment that currently exists and to fulfil the Vision and Mission of the College through the provision of capital funds for building programs, specific funding of new academic developments, and the generation of regular income from selected investments. All funds raised by the Foundation are directed towards the achievement of the College goals and objectives. The Sheldon College FRESCO and its committees support the Foundation and its activities. 12 2018 2018 13 College Services CHAPLAINCY SERVICE Contact: Mr Rick Samuels The Sheldon College Chaplaincy Service essentially fulfils two purposes. From time to time our life circumstances change and unexpected things happen. Accordingly, the College aims to support families or individuals in times of crisis, grief or uncertainty. These services include on-site resilience training programs and referrals to external agencies. Sometimes individuals may identify a need to seek personal spiritual guidance. This is also a service that is co-ordinated for our clients if necessary. As our College is non- denominational, no-one assuming a chaplaincy role is to discuss any religious doctrine and if people belong to a specific religious denomination, the process is for them to be referred to a counsellor of their own religious denomination. The College’s Chaplaincy Services are partially funded by the Queensland Government Department of Education and Training. For any further information regarding chaplaincy in the College, in the first instance please phone Mr Rick Samuels on 3206 5566 or email: [email protected].
CAFÉ 97 Catering Manager/Head Chef: Fabian Iseli Café 97 is open from 7:30am until 4:00pm. During breakfast and afternoon tea we operate out of the Coffee Shop window. With its nearby undercover seated area overlooking the fountain courtyard, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a Barista style coffee, tasty hot or cold snack or a delectable sweet or pastry. Morning tea and lunch is served from our modern food court area with two “Hot Food” hubs, as well as our express “Special of the Day” servery. Menus change daily to reflect fresh, seasonal, real food and produce. Students from Prep to Year 4 enjoy a pre-order system, while all other students can enjoy our varied offerings at Café 97. All Parents are invited to come and enjoy our new Café 97 and even take home some of our special prepared “take home meals”! In addition to Café 97 we also have a mobile coffee trailer which enables us to provide Barista coffee at our outside events such as sports days, Celebration Of Excellence and the College Coo-ee!

Last year we had approximately 300 registered volunteers and their efforts greatly enhanced the quality of our students’ lives and their educational experiences. Volunteer assistance is required and provided in the following areas: Café 97, supporting literacy and other classroom learning experiences, our two Learning Centres, scrapbooking, archives, making educational resources, managing sporting teams and our Arts programs and anything else you can think of. 12 2018 2018 13 STUDENT BANKING Contact: Mrs Judy Wilson/Mrs Susan Drury School Banking is conducted through the College weekly during the school year by a team of enthusiastic volunteers, located in the Junior Learning Centre. From 8:30am to 10:30am each Tuesday, the volunteers process student deposits into Commonwealth Bank Dollarmite or Youthsaver accounts. The program aims to teach our students the importance of financial literacy and, at the same time, is a valuable fundraiser for the College. The Commonwealth Bank rewards students who bank at least once per month and who make no withdrawals, with bonus interest. There is also a rewards program of tokens. This is a system where, for each deposit made, the child receives a token and as an incentive, can spend the tokens on reward items throughout the year. The College receives commission on the amount of money deposited and on the number of new accounts opened and these funds go towards purchasing important resources for our students. Anyone interested in joining the volunteer team or seeking information on School Banking may contact the Centre for Community Engagement on 07 3206 5559.
