At Your Library Make the Holidays Bright at Your Library By Meghan Crowe

It’s December…which means that things are probably about to get busy, if they haven’t started to already. Holiday parties, family get-togethers, shopping, baking, cooking…you name it! Let your North Vancouver District Public Library staff help you navigate the busy holiday season. Need a holiday cook book or DIY craft idea? Trying to track down some holiday classics to watch on DVD? Ask your expert librarians for help locating some material! Looking for a great recommendation on a book to give that bibliophile in your life? Each of our staff have their favourites as well as fantastic recommendations about popular titles. Or, are you looking for a gift for a local art-lover? The beautiful Salmon People prints by renowned artist Latash-Maurice Nahanee are for sale at any location! Or drop by the District Art Gallery at Lynn Valley Library to take your pick on some one of a kind art pieces. Stop by any of our three branches and we’d be more than happy to help you find whatever you are looking for. Oh, and don’t get lost in the holiday mayhem! Set aside some time for you and your family to sit back, relax, and enjoy some down-time. We’ve got lots of great events planned to help you celebrate the season so we hope you come see us at your local Library. This month at the Library features:  A fundraising event for the Deep Cove Heritage Society, called Visit the Neighbourhoods of Seymour with Janet Pavlik, takes place on Thursday, December 3. There will be a multi-media presentation featuring the cultural and historical elements of the Seymour-Deep Cove area, the telling of the Parkgate Story, mingling with your local community members, and more!  Are you a Star Wars fan? Attend The Force behind Epic Yarns and Cozy Classics with author Holman Wang. He’ll tell you all about how he created characters, built sets, and more!  Winter Wonderland Storytime and craft sessions are happening at all three locations on December 10 and 11. No need to drop a dime! Drop by for some FREE festive fun.  Not big into the holidays? That’s alright. Nothing screams “merry and bright” quite like Velociraptors and “Indominus Rex.” Join us for a screening of the blockbuster Jurassic World on December 12 at Capilano Library.

 We’re also celebrating the year-end with an Open House for all of our wonderful patrons. There will be three events held in December: Tuesday, December 8 at Parkgate Library, and Friday, December 11 at Capilano and Lynn Valley Libraries. Join us for hot ciders, baked goodies, and great company at any of our Open House events.  We’ll also have LIVE MUSIC on Wednesday, December 16 as the Sherwood Park Intermediate Choir performs at the Parkgate Library. Join us to hear all of the holiday classics!

Make sure you come into your local branch to stock up on all your reading and watching material early. All branches of the Library will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and the Sunday before New Years Day, as well as New Years Day. The Library will also have reduced hours on Wednesday, December 9, as well as close early on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. For a full list of these hours, please visit www.nvdpl.ca.
