The economic pressures of the Great Depression hit the industry hard, pitting miners against mine owners, causing wide- spread community hardship and culminating in fatal violence on 16 December that year. “Searching for a lost sheep may not make sense until we are that lost sheep” If you require assistance

The Parable of the Lost Sheep (Luke 15.1-7) is a parable that we are familiar with. And there’s often a question hanging in the please call air … ‘Why bother searching for the one lost sheep?’ It is a question that is asked all the time, yet if we were the lost one, we would hope and pray that someone would search for us and rejoice when we are found. Searching for the one lost sheep would then make sense to us. 0414 757 826 There are so many ways that people can be lost … through addictions, separation from families, health issues, phobias, anxiety and depression … to name just a few. When we seek and find those that are lost, we imitate Jesus who searches for us all when we are lost and separated from God by sin. So, I wonder, how is it that we have been lost? and how have we felt when we have been found and our return celebrated? Jesus challenged the religious leaders of his time to see tax collectors and sinners as family and friends and to celebrate with them at the banquet table. Jesus didn’t wait for sinners to find him, but He actively sought them out, welcomed them and ate with them. This caused much frustration and scandal among the religious leaders who avoided all contact with sinners, Husband believing that God had nothing to do with them either. Jesus shows them a different kind of God, one who has unconditional love for all people. This love shines through Jesus and they ways that he seeks, finds and celebrates the lost and outcast. Creche Jesus gives us a pattern for how to treat others. Is he getting under your feet A shepherd knows that a lost sheep is in danger while alone and because every sheep is valued and precious, he leaves the Is he moaning about shopping ninety-nine to seek the one lost sheep. This is not the actions of an exceptional shepherd; any worthy shepherd would do the Would your morning be stress same. How much more then, will God seek us when we are lost? Every one of us is precious in God’s sight. free without him Our response to this parable should be twofold. One response is to have a greater trust in God’s love for us and the ways in Ladies we have the answer which he cares for us. The other is to have a desire to imitate Jesus … to see those who are lost for any reason as brothers The Branxton Greta Menshed has a husband crèche every Wednesday and Friday and sisters in Christ and to rejoice when they are found. We too should be actively seeking those who are lost and bringing mornings. them home. Drop him off at our husband crèche. We’ll take good care of him and he may even learn something It might make little sense if we are one of the ninety-nine for our shepherd to go searching for one that is lost … but it makes a Just pay $2.00 for his morning coffee whole lot of sense if we are that one. Knowing that God will seek us out, search for us and rejoice over us being found enables ‘Branxton Greta Menshed’ 49 Branxton Street’ Greta in the grounds of the old us to know our value and preciousness as a child of God. Popular legal guide Rest Assured – new edition available for residents The 6th edition of Rest Assured: A legal guide to wills, estates, planning ahead and funerals in NSW is now available in all NSW public libraries, including Cessnock City Library. Often the first time we think about wills, estates and funerals is when we are dealing with the death of a loved one. So, whether you are planning ahead or want to know about the responsibilities of administering an estate, this easy-to-read guide will give you practical information on the many issues involved. Written by Rosemary Long, an accredited specialist wills and estates lawyer, and Trudy Coffey, Director of Social Work for South Western Sydney Local Health District, it answers questions such as: · What should you consider when writing a will? · Who can you appoint as an enduring guardian? · How do you contest a will? The book also addresses complex issues such as burial on private land, burial at sea and coroner’s cases. “The State Library can help you prepare for almost anything! We’re pleased to be making this important community resource freely available to everyone in their local public library and online.” says State Librarian Dr John Vallance. You can find this useful book in the collection of legal information resources called the Legal Tool Kit in Cessnock City Library. The full text of the resource is also available on the Find Legal Answers website: www.legalanswers.sl.nsw.gov.au. Find Legal Answers provides quality, plain English legal information for the community of NSW. The Find Legal Answers service is co-ordinated by staff of the Legal Information Access Centre (LIAC) at the State Library of NSW. 17 ͽ | THE NEWS | No. 506 | WEDNESDAY 11 SEPT 2019
