Music in the Parks Summer 2015 The Minneapolis Pops Orchestra ~ 66 Summers of Music at Lake Harriet The Minneapolis Pops Orchestra brings to the Twin Cities community the power and pleasure of live orchestra concerts performed by professional musicians, free of charge. Saturday, June 27, 7:30 pm – POPS PREVIEW POTPOURRI We begin our 66th season with a look ahead at each of the concerts at Lake Harriet this summer. Sunday, June 28, 5:30 pm – BLUE NOTES Inspired by George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and featuring the Twin Cities’ pre-eminent piano man Dan Chouinard, we paint the town blue: Blue Danube, Blue Moon, St Louis Blues. PINAFORE The Twin Cities’ leading operetta troupe, the Gilbert & Sullivan Very Light Opera Company, will be back to figure out who’s a captain and who’s a common sailor on their most uncommon ship. It’s Sunday night at the movies with special guests—the stars of Chanhassen Dinner Theater’s Mary Poppins. Tim Russell of “A Prairie Home Companion” is filmmeister for the evening. Nine great movie scores— bring popcorn!
