Parkway Names New Hospital Mount Elizabeth Novena MEDIA RELEASE ___________________________________________________________________ PARKWAY NAMES NEW HOSPITAL MOUNT ELIZABETH NOVENA Singapore, 20 January 2012 – Parkway Pantai Limited (“Parkway Pantai Group”), one of Asia’s largest private healthcare providers, has revealed the name of its newest hospital at Novena, today – Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital. Commenting on the rationale for the new name, Dr Tan See Leng, Group CEO and Managing Director of Parkway Pantai Group said, “Mount Elizabeth is a strong brand name, and is the private hospital of choice for patients and doctors. Extending the name to Novena enables the solid brand name within the Parkway Pantai Group of hospitals, which is already synonymous with excellent healthcare, to grow and cater to the healthcare needs of more patients.” Mount Elizabeth Hospital was established in 1979 and is to date Singapore's largest private hospital. It offers more than 35 clinical specialities and performs the largest number of cardiology and neurology surgeries in Singapore’s private healthcare sector every year. The hospital is internationally and locally renowned for excellence in medical and patient care services. Dr Lim Suet Wun, Executive Vice President of Singapore Operations, Parkway Pantai Group added, “Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital merges medical expertise and international best practices of the Parkway Pantai network. Patients can look forward to the best medical expertise and healthcare services when the hospital is open for business.” Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital is located in Singapore’s upcoming third medical hub, to be opened in the second half of 2012. It is one of the most significant greenfield hospital projects in the country’s private healthcare scene in recent years. It will widen the range of healthcare service offerings to patients in Singapore and medical tourists from overseas, as well as strengthen Singapore’s position as a premier medical hub in the Asian region. -- End -- For media queries, please contact: Janet Low Sharon Seetho Parkway Pantai Limited Kreab Gavin Anderson DID: +65 6349 5764 Tel: +65 6339 9110 Email: [email protected] Email: [email protected] 1 ABOUT MOUNT ELIZABETH NOVENA HOSPITAL Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Parkway Pantai Group’s new hospital in the heart of Singapore’s premier medical hub, is scheduled to open in the second half of 2012. • Enhancing the Competitiveness of the Health Services Sector in Singapore
CHAPTER 3 Transforming the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) into a Global Services Hub: Enhancing the Competitiveness of the Health Services Sector in Singapore KAI HONG PHUA Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore NICOLA S POCOCK Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore 1. Introduction Singapore was the first country in the region to officially articulate an aim to attract medical tourists and promote the export of health services overseas. In 2003, the Healthcare Services Working Group (HSWG) of the Economic Review Committee recommended that Singapore attract one million foreign patients by 2012. To achieve this goal, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), along with the Economic Development Board (EDB) and International Enterprise (IE) Singapore, launched SingaporeMedicine in 2003, a multi-agency initiative that aims to promote, develop and maintain Singapore as an international medical hub. However, in recent years, the push for medical tourism has been muted. Sectiononeof this paper summarizes the Singapore context for a past medical tourism hub policy, followed by an overview of the health system, with policy implications for the system should medical tourism become a major growth area. Methodology is then described in section two, followed by the findings of the SWOT analysis conducted among stakeholders in the health services sector. 111 The objective of this paper is to: 1. Undertake a SWOT analysis for the health services sector in Singapore. 2. Undertake an analysis of policies/regulatory/institutional support for the health services sector in Singapore. 3. Develop a profiling of firms which are considered key players for the health services industry.
