New Helston Branded Aluminium Water Bottles

Do you really need to by bottled water?? A million plastic bottles are bought around the world every minute and it’s predicted that this figure will rise by another 20% by 2021. In the UK we are using 38.5 million plastic bottles every single day and we are struggling to recycle half of those. 150 plastic bottles litter each mile of UK beaches. I’m sure you all agree that these facts that are provided by Surfers Against Sewage and ReFill UK are truly shocking!!

Lets all come together and stop being part of the problem and start being part of the solution. One small change that you can make is to stop buying bottled water and get a refillable aluminium bottle– try not to get plastic ones as they eventually become part of the problem!

We are currently selling our own Helston Branded Aluminium Water Bottles from The Guildhall at a cost of £7.50 with proceeds from the sales going to the Mayor’s Welfare Fund to support the Mayor’s charities. So not only would you be helping the environment, you would also be helping Kosel Dementia Trust and Mustard Seed!

You can fill your bottle up at home and when you run out there are so many locations around town to get a refill, just pop in to any of the locations below and ask for a free water refill:

Helston Farmers Markert, Fountain at the Lakeside Café, The Coinagehall (Wetherspoons), Henlys, Helston Town Council, The Open Door Café, Mustard Seed, Flora Cinema, Gillians Larder, Costa (Meneage Street), The Bell Inn, Costa (Tesco), Premier Inn, Maytree and Frugi.

In June Helston Town Council was awarded the John MacKay Environmental Award as we have been taking steps towards tackling climate change and making Helston Plastic Free. We are all so honoured to have been recognised for this, which I’m sure you can tell from the chuffed faces to the right!

We all still have a long way to go but hopefully this will encourage other town and parish councils to do the same.

Lets save the planet together!

There’s entertainment from the local community including music, competitions, stalls and plenty of fun things to do... everything that goes to make up a great carnival atmosphere. Get your Recycling Bags at the Guildhall!

We have had an astounding number of people come to our offices to get some recycling equipment. We have black recycling boxes and red, blue and orange bags available here at the Guildhall—these are free and you can collect them during our usual office hours. If you need information about the recycling scheme or when recycling is collected, please look at the website.

Please note that these are only available for domestic use. Weddings at the Guildhall Monument Markets On the second Thursday of every month we hold a market at Monument Walk. There are always lots of different stalls selling crafts, produce and more. Teas and Coffees are available from Helston Bowling Club. Come along and enjoy the relaxed ambience and lovely background music. Our next market is on Thursday 8th August from 10am - 2pm.

Another Roundabout Revamp

The Roundabout (pictured to the right) has now been revamped by our Grounds Maintenance Team with help from Cormac Solutions Ltd. We are all so happy with how it looks. This is the third roundabout in Helston that we have taken over and made more visually appealing for residents of the town and tourists visiting and passing through. Special thanks goes to PFS (Helston) Ltd (who are a local water, mechanical and engineering company based in the Water Ma Trout Industrial Estate) for their donation of £1,500 towards the project and to Helston Rotatory Club for their £250 contribution. The positive response we have had from all members of the community both online and in person has been so overwhelming but when you see the Falmouth Roundabout (pictured below) one year on from being planted, you can see what everyone is raving about!
