Längst ist er 20 – zum Messias einer ganzen Rocker-Generation aufgestiegen. 2014 schnappte er sich seine Gitarre, packte seine Band in einen Van, reiste mit ihr quer durch Nordamerika und kehrte mit dem nächsten Album zurück. Sowie einer achtteiligen Dokumentation über die US-Städte, die als Initialzündung für jeweils mindestens ein fest etabliertes Musikgenre stehen. n Kürze feiern die Foo Fighters ihr zehntes Studioal- bum – und beschenken ihre Fans mit neuen Songs, die- die Welt gerade in Zeiten von Corono gut gebrauchen kann. Und was für einen Weg diese Band hinter sich gebracht hat! Begonnen hat alles als alternative Spiel- wiese für den durch den tragischen Tod Kurt Cobains arbeitslos gewordenen Nirvana-Drummer Dave Grohl, der nun zur Gitarre griff und schon auf dem lediglich Imit ein paar Kumpels eingespielten Debütalbum mit ex- trem kraftvollen Post-Grunge-Songs begeisterte. Dass es dazu kam, verdankt Grohl seinem Psychologen, der ihm riet, trotz des tragischen Verlusts die Musik nicht aufzu- geben. Zeitlose Kunst Bereits mit dem zweiten Album begann der weltweite Sie- geszug: Für viele zählt The Colour and the Shape zu den besten Rock-Alben der 90er Jahre, ein zeitloses Stück grandioser Kompositonskunst. Dann: Die finale Eroberung der Charts mit dem dritten Werk There Is Nothing Left to Lose sowie Hitsingles wie „Learn to Fly“ und „Breakout“, gipfelnd in einem Grammy für das beste Rockalbum im Jahr 2001. Grohls sich daran anschließende Phase mit dem Metal- Projekt Probot wurde auf Seiten der Foo Fighters konter- guitar 41 Solo-Legends WORKSHOP Charts, in Deutschland Platz 2 und auch überm großen Teich in den Top 20 mit insgesamt vier Millionen ver- kaufter LPs. Der Name ist Programm Apropos LP: Kurz vor Fertigstellung des Albums wurde die Band mit der Tatsache konfrontiert, dass ihr gerade aufgenommener Longplayer nach An- Workshop Video zum sicht der Plattenfirma eher ein „Short- auf Youtube OWNLO /D A player“ sei, sprich: zu kurz geraten D D C war. (040) 853 88 888 ∙ www.fkpscorpio.com PRESSEMITTEILUNG 27.04.2021 Exklusives Deutschlandkonzert der Foo Fighters wird in den Sommer 2022 von der Waldbühne auf den Flughafen Tempelhof verlegt Aufgrund der aktuellen Situation verlegen die Foo Fighters ihr exklusives Konzert in Berlin in den Sommer 2022. Die einzige Show hierzulande, welche ursprünglich für den Juni 2020 in der Berliner Waldbühne geplant war und bereits in den Juni dieses Jahres verschoben wurde, findet nun Anfang Juni nächsten Jahres auf dem Flughafen Tempelhof statt. Nachdem das Konzert in der Waldbühne innerhalb von ein paar Stunden ausverkauft war, wird die Show im Rahmen der zeitlichen Verlegung nun auch räumlich auf das größere Gelände des Flughafen Tempelhof verlegt. Somit sind ab sofort wieder Tickets verfügbar. Waldbühnen-Tickets behalten natürlich ihre Gültigkeit. Zudem sind Greta van Fleet und The Pretty Reckless als Special Guests mit dabei. Seit einem Vierteljahrhundert gelten die Foo Fighters als ein Phänomen der Indie- Rockszene. Seitdem stürmen die Musiker aus Seattle mit ihren eingängigen Rocksongs nicht nur die internationalen Charts, sondern vielmehr auch die größten Konzertbühnen. Live sind die Foo Fighters eine der höchst geschätzten Bands überhaupt, ihre Konzerte fast immer ausverkauft. Man denke nur an die Tour, die Dave Grohl mit gebrochenem Bein im Thron sitzend absolvierte. Immer unterwegs in neue Richtungen, immer offen für neue Wege und dabei immer neue Musik in der Pipeline. Jüngst veröffentlichten die Musiker um den ehemaligen Nirvana-Schlagzeuger ihr neues Studioalbum „Medicine At Midnight“. Wer sich aufgrund der aktuellen Lage nicht auf der Bühne verausgaben darf, der tut dies ganz einfach im Studio.

    Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

    Listening for the Depths of Winter: And a hot debate enters the House floor Austin Bullock — Don’t Wake Me Up At the end of 2020, Providence-based multi-instrumentalist Austin Bullock dropped Don’t Wake Me Up, a satisfying collection of eight songs with wide-ranging influences. A prolific writer, Bullock put out three albums in 2020, all following the theme of “8 hours labor, 8 hours recreation, 8 hours rest” according to his Bandcamp page. Though it was hard to decipher any kind of throughline, all the songs feature smart arranging and superb guitar playing. He mixes a lot into the stew here, and all the parts are well fleshed out. “Circus Freak” has a kind of dancy Franz Ferdinand vibe, and “How Could You” is a breezy folk tune. Some of the songs off Don’t Wake Me Up make that warbly, Mac Demarco guitar tone the star of the show, like the heavy groover “Deflated.” The leadoff “(I Don’t Want) Another” has the sunny, laid-back tones of Ryland Baxter. The interlocked guitars in “Evaporate” are straight-up Strokes. The best moment comes when Bullock moves away from the modern indie influences completely in the bluesy, psych-infused ”Talk the Talk.” The song’s repetitive, hypnotic riff is something my brain hasn’t been able to shake. There is a homespun basement vibe — Bullock appears to play all the instruments — that is definitely cool, but these songs would really rip with a full band. The act performs as a duo with Lauren Boucher on drums, and hopefully will be playing live at a venue near you soon.

As a person professionally obligated to listen to every new Foo Fighters LP, I am sad to report that it is not very good, just as the previous two Foo Fighters albums aren’t very good. However, this band does have some songs that are, in fact, good. After revisiting the band’s catalogue in recent weeks, I have deduced that there are exactly 30 good Foo Fighters songs. I have listed them here in order of personal preference, along with detailed explanations about how this band, one of the most popular mainstream rock acts of the last 25 years, got to where they are.
