Government Reiltys ElIan Vannin The Council of Ministers Annual Report Isle of Man Government Preservation of War Memorials Committee .Duty 2017 The Isle of Man Government Preservation of War Piemorials Committee Foreword by the Hon Howard Quayle MHK, Chief Minister To: The Hon Stephen Rodan MLC, President of Tynwald and the Honourable Council and Keys in Tynwald assembled. In November 2007 Tynwald resolved that the Council of Ministers consider the establishment of a suitable body for the preservation of War Memorials in the Isle of Man. Subsequently in October 2008, following a report by a Working Group established by Council of Ministers to consider the matter, Tynwald gave approval to the formation of the Isle of Man Government Preservation of War Memorials Committee. I am pleased to lay the Annual Report before Tynwald from the Chair of the Committee. I would like to formally thank the members of the Committee for their interest and dedication shown in the preservation of Manx War Memorials and to especially acknowledge the outstanding voluntary contribution made by all the membership. This Committee plays a very important role in our community to ensure that all War Memorials on the Isle of Man are protected and preserved in good order for generations to come. The Committee continues to work closely with Manx National Heritage, the Church representatives and the Local Authorities to ensure that all memorials are recorded in the Register of Memorials. -

Tucker, English master and the Barrovian's new editor, who thus has the unusual task of welcoming himself in these notes. At the beginning of ter*m we sai*d goodby*e to Miss Oates, who had been in charge of the college shop since October 1944. Marjory Oates is now a fanner's wife, and we wish her every happiness among the cows and pigs. Her place behind the counter of the college shop has been taken by Mr. A. J. Grant. On Saturday, November 2ist two C.M.S. films were shown. The first dealt with how the problem of the blind ii> India is being met at special schools, and' the second with the impact of Western civil- ization on the peoples of East Africa. -

House of Keys General Election THURSDAY 22nd SEPTEMBER 2016 VOTE FOR GRAHAM CREGEEN For Arbory, Castletown & MalewP “Striving to deliver A secure future” Dear Constituent It has been a great honour to serve the people of Malew and Santon in Tynwald over the last two terms. At this election the boundaries have changed, this now means that Arbory, Castletown and Malew will be combined and I would ask for your support on the 22 September in striving to deliver a secure future for our Island. I am 54 years old, married to Jacqui and have two sons - Andrew is 20, an apprentice joiner, and Ben is 17 and studying for his A levels. I have lived in the south of the Island all my life and was brought up in a family that proudly served the community, with my father, brother and myself having been members of the Port St Mary Lifeboat and Rushen Emergency Ambulance / St. John’s Ambulance. I have also coached over many years at Malew Football Club and the Southern Amateur Swimming Club. Previously, I worked for and then ran the family business and also taught at the Isle of Man College before joining the Post Office. I was elected as Member of the House of Keys for Malew and Santon in 2006 and 2011. The last administration faced a unique set of challenges and many difficult decisions needed to be made; as you will know I was involved in some of these. Some of these were very tough and uncomfortable decisions, but I sought resolutions where common sense prevailed, focusing on the long-term prosperity of the Isle of Man and greater efficiency in government. -

Oil and nuclear energy can only bridge the gap between the coal we have and the power we need. The bulk of this energy must, for many generations, come from coal. To meet the increasing demands for coal, vast schemes of recon- struction and expansion are being undertaken by the coal-mining industry, for which there must be an adequate supply of suitably qualified and well-trained men. University Scholarships.—The National Coal Board offer a hundred University Scholarships a year ; most are in Mining Engineering, and some are available in -Mechanical, Electrical and Chemical Engineering and in Fuel Technology. They are worth about the same as State Scholarships but there is no parental means test. School Leavers.—There are also good opportunities for advance- ment for boys with initiative who come straight into the industry from school. You can attend part-time courses (for example. National Certificate courses) at technical colleges for which you are given day release from work with pay. Management Training.—When you are qualified—either through the University or through technical college while working—you are eligible for a two or three-year course under the Board's Management Training Scheme. Each trainee has a course mapped out for him personally, with a senior engineer to give him individual supervision. Scientific Careers.—If you are interested in a Scientific Career, there is absorbing and rewarding work at the Board's Research establishments, in the coalfields on operational work. -

Health – providing more accommodation for the increasing elderly population to free up hospital resources. Additional money for new nurses and training for existing staff to maintain standards. Cut waste inside government to allow savings to be used elsewhere. Education – support our teachers and students to provide the best education possible. Increase after school funding to support Youth Clubs and extracurricular activities. Find a solution to the Pensions issue and look to diversify our economy to avoid over reliance on Finance and E Gaming. If you were elected, what would your Build new affordable housing in and priorities be on a constituency level? around Castletown in particular, ensure that the proposed Enterprise zone at Ronaldsway & Balthane is a success in attracting Investment. Make sure that the new Castle Rushen High School is progressed sooner rather than later. Ensuring that the more rural areas of the constituency are properly represented. Prevention of flooding not only in the coastal areas but also in inland areas such as Colby, Ballabeg and Ballasalla. -

The Hon Member for Michael (Mr Cannan) to ask the Chief Minister - What action do you take on receipt of letters sent to you in support of the retention of the title Lieutenant Governor? 3. The Hon Member for Onchan (Mr Karran) to ask the Chief Minister - In view of the fact that apart from the legality of certain loans, the Manx Electricity Authority financial crisis was primarily a result of the failure of Government, will you support me in my stance that the membership of the Select Committee on the Manx Electricity Authority should not include any persons who have held Ministerial Government Office during the period 1997-2006 on the grounds of conflict of interest?
