They will be available online, sometime after the festival, at the Madison Homebrewers and Tasters Guild website, http://mhtg.org. WelcOMe frOM the PresIdent elcome to the Great taste of the midwest! this year we are celebrating our 25th year, making this the second longest running beer festival in the country! in celebration of our silver anniversary, we are releasing the Great taste of the midwest: celebrating 25 Years, a book that chronicles the creation of the festival in 1987W and how it has changed since. the book is available for $25 at the merchandise tent, and will also be available by the front gate both before and after the event. in the forward to the book, Bill rogers, our festival chairman, talks about the parallel growth of the craft beer industry and our festival, which has allowed us to grow to hosting 124 breweries this year, an awesome statistic in that they all come from the midwest. we are also coming close to maxing out the capacity of the real ale tent with around 70 cask-conditioned beers! someone recently asked me if i felt that the event comes off by the seat of our pants, because sometimes during our planning meetings it feels that way.

Abstract: Although explicit references to religion are rare in the marketplace, pictorial representations and rhetoric evocative of religious figures and concepts manifest a unique strategy in contemporary American beer branding. By reflecting societal views, prejudices, and preferences, advertising provides an enclosed narrative of how people think and in turn illustrates the way in which society is structured . This phenomenon discredits the assumption of a strict separation between the secular and the sacred. Beers with religious connotations do not monopolize the market but they do constitute a significant phenomenon in the modern beer industry. Religious references in beer branding often participate in the commodified authentic and cultivate an image of a nostalgic past through idyllic portrayals of monastic brewing. Alternately, beer branding via religion may employ irreverent, blasphemous, or offensive representations. Both the idealized and the indicting representations acknowledge a disparity between the real and the ideal in society.

I was enjoying Friday night trips to Whitefriars Ale House in Coventry with their ever changing selection of guest ales. However I could never really remember which beers or breweries I’d enjoyed most a few months later. The nearby Inspire Café Bar provided a different challenge with its range of European beers that were often only differentiated by their number – was it the 6, 8 or 10 that I liked? So I started to make notes on the beers to improve my powers of selection. Now, over three years on, that simple list has grown into the book you hold. As well as straightforward likes and dislikes, the book contains what I have learnt about the many styles of beer and the history of brewing in countries across the world. It reflects the diverse beers that are being produced today and the differing attitudes to it.

  • Borefts Bier Festival 2010
Borefts Bier Festival 2010 24 en 25 september 2010 Official Festival Programme Welcome What a delight to have you here at our second Borefts Beer Festival! Our goal is to promote good craft beers that are brewed all around Europe to a wide public and with you being here we gained another soul we hope. If you are already a member of the real beer loving crowd than it's just as great to have you here as we can offer you the most wonderful, original and exclusive beers from Europe. In total 10 breweries are attending this year presenting 7 countries. We have over 90 beers that go from easy going to powerful and complex. From very sweet to very sour. From refreshing light bitter to harsh and spicy. You name it, we have it! Except a pale lager or pilsner. Not that there's anything wrong with a cold pint but you can get it anywhere. Last year we did a pilot for the festival and it turned out great. Hundreds of people filled out our suggestions form. The most heard suggestion was to have a festival programme. And as you can see we listened to that suggestion. The second most heard suggestion was to continue the festival. And we did as well. Just like more beers with lower ABV, one location instead of two, water bottles and a two day festival instead of just one. We hope you'll have fun! Brouwerij de Molen Who brewed the best Vuur & Vlam? We thought we'd do a contest this year.
