SUNDAY, May 10, 2020

Dear Dawes Families,

This week you received communication from Lincoln Public Schools. We wanted to provide this follow-up message with additional information.

On Tuesday, May 19th and Wednesday, May 20th, 8th grade students will have the opportunity to come to school to return any LPS items they have at home and to retrieve their personal belongings. We apologize, but siblings will not be participating in the return and retrieval plan. They will get their belongings at another time as health restrictions are lifted before next fall.

○ Tuesday, May 19: 7:00 AM - 1:00 PM ○ Wednesday, May 20: 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Return and retrieval will be drive-thru only, students and families will not enter the building.

8th Grade Return List ❏ Musical instrument owned by the school (loaned to student through fee waiver) ❏ School textbooks ❏ LPS library books - students will receive an email of books due from Mrs. Banwell on 5/10 ❏ Classroom books belonging to the teacher ❏ Anything else that belongs to the school or teacher ❏ Do not return your Chromebook and charger (Keep for 9th grade unless you will not return to LPS in the fall)

Drive-thru Plan Please arrive driving West on Colfax. We will use the parking lot to guide each vehicle in the “U” to keep our stations organized. ● The drive through will consist of three stations: ○ (One-way traffic heading west on Colfax) - typical school traffic pattern ○ Station 1: Families will pull up and share their students first and last name. A staff member will radio the student name to the return team (station 3), who will prepare the bag of locker contents. ○ Station 2: Families will return all school items. ○ Station 3: Staff will place the bag of student belongings in the trunk of the car of each family.

Safety guidelines and reminders: ○ Stay in your vehicle ○ Have items to return to school in the trunk, if possible ○ Follow the traffic pattern and directions from school staff wearing safety vests ○ Smiles, waves and warm greetings are welcome! ○ Please no high fives, hugs, fist bumps for school staff

Due to the large number of students and the short amount of time, students in 6th and 7th grades will not be able to come to school and retrieve their belongings. All students will keep their Chromebooks through the summer. Exceptions will be made for students who are moving out of LPS, switching schools and other unique situations. Please contact us if this applies to your family.

As health restrictions are lifted before next fall, we will work on finding the best way to return student’s items. We will communicate the information when it becomes available. Please know that our staff have taken extra measures to keep your items protected while they are at school.

We understand our steps for keeping our families and staff safe may be disappointing for some as you are wanting to have closure at the end of the school year. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

LPS has determined that all yearbooks will be handed out in the fall. If you are moving to high school we will send your yearbook to your designated high school. If you still wish to purchase a yearbook, we have added the optional fee to synergy today, which means you will see the fee in your synergy fees tab by Monday.

All hotspots checked out to families, are asked to be returned on or before May 22. We will call to set up appointments for the return of hotspots.

Teachers will assign the last assignments for new learning on May 15. Teachers will continue to teach, provide feedback and support to students in learning 4th quarter content through May 21. Please be on the lookout for end of the year learning and celebrations, we will continue to focus on student engagement in zoom office hours each week.
