We continue to pray that we may all live out our vocation to the full in family and community. We pray too for vocations to the priesthood and religious life so that all may be nourished with God's Word. Last Sunday the Annual Collection for Diocesan Services was due. You will find the red Diocesan Services Collection Envelope between vour April & Mav Dues Envelope ~ but please note it has been incorrectly dated for the 2<fh Apr/7. You will also find a letter from Bishop Leo explaining the need for this collection and the uses to which it is put in the Diocese, within Ireland and internationally. Each parish is levied by Kilmore Diocese in accordance with its population ~ a contribution of €4 per head this year for every man, woman and child in the 3 parish areas ~ or a total of €12 for a household of three. Do your best to make your family contribution in accordance with these guidelines. Please bring in contributions as soon as possible, preferably next weekend Thanks for your continuing generosity! Thanks to Celebrity Bainisteoir Katherine Lynch, Mickey Quinn and the players and management of St. Patrick's GAA Club, Dromahair for all the fun, good humour and excitement provided by participation in the Celebrity Bainisteoir Competition over the last few months. Commitment on the field of play was excellent. On TV everyone was articulate and happy and reflected this community in a most positive light. The Final on Friday evening in Parnell Park was a wonderful occasion but it's a pity good luck deserted us just a little at the very end. Again heartiest congratulations to all involved and thanks for sharing a wonderful and memorable journey with all the community. In the end its not the years in your life that count, it's the life in your years!.

As audience needs changed and evolved, RTÉ, together with the independent sector, rose to the challenge to ensure that quality Irish content was produced to inform, educate and entertain. From factual to entertainment, lifestyle, cláracha gaelige, drama, comedy and young people’s, the sector responded to unprecedented changes to daily life in Ireland and across the world to produce relevant and distinctive content. Audiences in Ireland connected with Irish content in increasing numbers across all genres, with RTÉ’s all-day share of TV viewing increasing by 1.7% to 27.2%1. RTÉ delivered 43 of the top 50 programmes on Irish television in 2020, with 14 being produced by the independent sector. Independent productions such as Ireland on Call and RTÉ’s Home School Hub played a pivotal role in meeting new audience needs and complemented News & Current Affairs content across TV, online and radio. As well as creating innovative new content and formats to meet these needs, the independent sector demonstrated great agility by adapting production models to comply with public health advice and restrictions. Series such as Ireland’s Fittest Family and Operation Transformation used best-practice production methods to ensure their safe return to screens, while new programming such as Gardening Together with Diarmuid Gavin, No Place Like Home and Open for Business reflected shifts in audience lifestyle and needs during the pandemic.

Amharc Fhine Gall 12th Edition opens in ESTUARY PAGE 48 December featuring the work of Fingal artist Ann Ensor, in a new commission, which will explore the significance to the environment of kelp seaweed (pg 50). Michael McLoughlin finishes his work in Mulhuddart as Draíocht’s Artist in Residence 2017-2019, revisiting stories and conversations to put in place a plan for longer-term connections (pg 52). And we look forward to Ceol Connected’s show ‘LEAF’, developed in Draíocht during their time as Theatre Company in Residence for 2019 (pg 09). He says the Association has waited for far too long to make its submissions to the Public Service Pay Commission, which is due to deliver its report in April. n behalf of the GSRMA, I had written well in Oadvance when the Terms of Reference were released for the Public Service Pay Commission (PSPC) – the body which was established to look into all aspects of Public Sector Remuneration. Likewise I sought representation on your behalf on the Commission itself in order to get our message across, since the Government is failing to recognise our plight. Taoiseach Enda Kenny referred my application to the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, Paschal Donohoe TD. Minister Donohoe released the names of the PSPC members he had appointed to the Commission, and inferred that all submission in relation to public pay and pensions were to be submitted to this body in good time, so that they would be best equipped to deliver its report. In mid-February I wrote to the Public Service Pay Commission, to put them on notice that I would be as a progressively structured imposition on public service making a submission on your behalf.

Dad’s paternal grandparents, James Westropp Brereton and Ursula Harnett (along with four children) arrived in Canada from Listowel, Ireland in 1878 after the Captain had been appointed a Dominion Commissioner of Police by Queen Victoria. Dad’s maternal grand-parents were Dan Martin of Northern Ireland and Julia Crowley identified as of the Province of Munster, Ireland. My mother’s great grandparents, both the Willis and Doak families, also immigrated to Canada from Northern Ireland. So it is little wonder that I went in search of my Irish ancestors. As my great grandfather Captain James W. Brereton kept a diary and there were family tales and newspaper clippings of Brereton and Handford Halls, I became intrigued with my Irish Brereton ancestors at an early age. While all my ancestors were Irish, to date it is the Brereton line that continues to intrigue me. They certainly were a fascinating family who travelled the world, were knighted and held positions of power.
