Even more memorable for us was the small section of road that veers inland to skirt the perimeter of the Otway National Park. Here, on New Year's Day, peddling between Port Campbell and Lavers Hill, we endured the most excruciating ex­ perience of our lives. For fifty kilometers the road wound ever upwards, headwinds howled ever harder and our spirits ebbed ever lower.
