FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FEBRUARY 10, 2009 BOULEVARD CASINO PRESENTS DAVID CASSIDY LIVE AT THE RED ROBINSON SHOW THEATRE FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9 Coquitlam, BC - From television to recording and record-breaking concert tours and from Broadway to Las Vegas shows, David Cassidy has made his mark and been lauded with awards and nominations ranging from Grammys to Emmys and many more. Hailing from a family of actors, mother Evelyn Ward and father Jack Cassidy, he wound up starring with stepmother Shirley Jones on ABC’s hit sitcom, “The Partridge Family” which aired from 1970 to 1974. Cassidy played the role of eldest son and the band’s lead singer, “Keith Partridge.” During the show’s run, membership of his official fan club exceeded that of Elvis Presley and The Beatles. To date, Cassidy’s records have sold well over 35 million copies worldwide and have been recognized with over twenty-four gold and platinum recordings including four consecutive multi-platinum LP’s. He was responsible for seven chart-topping Partridge Family singles including “Doesn’t Somebody Want To Be Wanted,” ”I Woke Up In Love This Morning” and “I Think I Love You” which was the best selling single of 1971. As a solo artist, he has had hit singles including “Cherish,” ”Could It Be Forever,” ”How Can I Be Sure,” ”Rock Me Baby” and “Lyin’ to Myself.” His post-Partridge Family acting credits include a guest starring role on the highest rated episode of the NBC series, “Police Story” which earned him an Emmy nomination for “Best Dramatic Actor” in 1978 and a starring role on Broadway in the original production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” in 1982. Cassidy moved to Las Vegas in 1996 to star at the MGM Grand in the $75 million extravaganza, “EFX.” He then went on to work with Emmy Award winning writer-producer, Don Reo where they created and produced two new Vegas shows, “The Rat Pack is Back!” and “At the Copa.” In 2002, he released the album, Then and Now followed by A Touch Of Blue a year later. Today he resides in Florida with his wife, Sue Shifrin-Cassidy and their 18 year old son, Beau while still touring across North America as well as throughout the UK and Australia. Questionnaire respondents were mainly parents of children ages 2 -6; mothers outnumbered fathers -9:1. Results included the findings that children watched TV an average of three hours a day; this varied little throughout the country and between those viewing Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and those .watching commercial programs. Younger children preferred the former, older the latter. Parents gave overwhelming support to PBS, especially to Sesame Street, Mister Rogers and Electric Company, rating these superior to their commercial competitors. Ninety-six percent of the parents favored changing practices regarding commercials on children's TV, with 40% wanting their elimination, 25% a reduction, and 25% a clustering of commercials at the end of .programs. Annoyance was expressed over toy commercials and the quality of the toys themselves. Most parents felt TV was influential; they thought TV, especially PBS, taught communication skills, enhanced ,social learning and broadened interests. They also felt TV. had too much violence and materialism and that certain programs could foster passivity and anti-social behavior. Hayes 2009 PREFACE When the University of Wyoming began collecting the papers of national entertainment figures in the 1970s, it was one of only a handful of repositories actively engaged in the field. Business and industry, science, family history, even print literature were all recognized as legitimate fields of study while prejudice remained against mere entertainment as a source of scholarship. There are two arguments to be made against this narrow vision. In the first place, entertainment is very much an industry. It employs thousands. It requires vast capital expenditure, and it lives or dies on profit. In the second place, popular culture is more universal than any other field. Each individual’s experience is unique, but one common thread running throughout humanity is the desire to be taken out of ourselves, to share with our neighbors some story of humor or adventure. This is the basis for entertainment. The Entertainment Industry collections at the American Heritage Center focus on the twentieth century. During the twentieth century, entertainment in the United States changed radically due to advances in communications technology. The development of radio made it possible for the first time for people on both coasts to listen to a performance simultaneously. The delivery of entertainment thus became immensely cheaper and, at the same time, the fame of individual performers grew.
