VII. Discussion 1. MGC Letter Response a. Sigma Tau Gamma: Motion for a 10 minute discussion b. Seconded by Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia i. Pi Kappa Phi: It was not our intent to exclude or target people. It is easier to manage smaller philanthropies. We’re doing what’s alway been done ii. On behalf of the men of Pi Kappa Phi I would like to apologize to anyone who was offended by our event. c. Phi Kappa Theta: Someone behind in the MGC crowd said “What the f***?” which they took to be offensive when we are here to have a conversation with MGC d. Sigma Tau Gamma: Are there any intentions of changing the event name/structure? e. Pi Kappa Phi: Seeing that it has caused such a stir, yes there will be discussions around the event. Part of wave of PC culture, not the intent of the phrasing and naming of the event f. Alpha Gamma Rho: This is a irrelevant topic, they feel as if they are pushing us around because they were not invited. g. Sam Baxter: Need to craft some sort of a response to MGC going forward h. Carter Hill: I will be the one having the conversations with the other councils so anything said during this meeting will be taken into consideration. i. Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia: Need to have some sort of response, but need to keep in mind an air of respect, but also highlight that as a tradition, it is how it has been done but never done with the intent to offend. Emphasis to come into the conversation at a level playing field j. Sigma Pi: We should not be divided just because we are on separate councils, we should reach out to all the other councils and make sure that they know they are invited to these events k. Alpha Epsilon Pi: As the jewish fraternity, we target a jewish audience, but it's because that is our base. Makes sense that Pi Kappa Phi has targeted PHA as an audience because that's who they interact with most. There has been a lot of talk about connecting between councils but maybe not so much action. Time to move forward and make a more conscious effort to be more connected with MGC and other councils rather than back pedal and defend. l. Nu Alpha Kappa Fraternity, Inc.: They were not trying to be offensive, we should take this in a more open minded way. m. Pi Kappa Phi motioned to extend time limit by 10 minutes n. Seconded o. Kappa Sigma: We really need to respond to the idea that this name was potentially racially insensitive p. Alpha Gamma Rho: Inclusivity is a two way street, seen as a double standard we have never been personally asked or invited to these events. It needs to be from them as well q. Jeremy Wasserman: One of our five pillars is lifelong learning, none of us are perfect so we need to take this as a learning experience and come together as councils r. Natalie (point of clarification): Do you understand what they found offense by the term jungle? Have you heard the term “Jungle Fever”? Additionally both Jacob Epperson and Carter Hill knew that MGC intended to come speak with IFC tonight, so if Pi Kappa Phi wasn’t aware that this was addressed tonight. s. Evan Torres: I’d like to respond to a couple things, judicials could be a very slippery slope. We should not continue to do things that would aggravate part of our community, given that we are so small and the fact that racially motivated incidents are rising it is more important than ever to stand together as councils. t. Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia: One of the best statements we can do is to get a group of people together to go over our joint policies and identify our loopholes then bring those to GA to discuss them and make adjustments as needed u. Pi Kappa Phi: My closing statement, it was not intended to offend anyone and we will bring it up at chapter to make sure that the correct adjustments are made, but there does need to be some sort of compromise. v. Natalie Padron: Im not sure that MGC recognized that Beaus and Arrows happened this semester.
