    Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem Introduction The Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem is a major Christian holy site, as it marks the traditional place of Christ's birth. It is also one of the oldest surviving Christian churches. In the Bible The birth of Jesus is narrated in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. Matthew gives the impression that Mary and Joseph were from Bethlehem and later moved to Nazareth because of Herod's decree, while Luke indicates The Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem that Mary and Joseph were from Nazareth, and Jesus was born in Bethlehem while they were in town for a special census. Scholars tend to see these two stories as irreconcilable and believe Matthew to be more reliable because of historical problems with Luke's version. But both accounts agree that Jesus was born in Bethlehem and raised in Nazareth. According to Luke 2:7 (in the traditional translation), Mary "laid him in a manger because there was no room for them in the inn." But the Greek can also be rendered, "she laid him in a manger because they had no space in the room" — we The Door of Humility – only about 4 feet high should perhaps imagine Jesus being born in a quiet back room of an overflowing one‐room house. The gospel accounts don't mention a cave, but less than a century later, both Justin Martyr and the Protoevangelium of James say Jesus was born in a cave. This is reasonable, as many houses in the area are still built in front of a cave.

Hence, is considered as the first center of tourism due to the coming of these three major world faiths flocking to Palestine to engage in sacred pilgrimages. Some of these sites which are frequently visited are Jerusalem, Nazareth, Jericho, Bethlehem and Hebron. Palestine was for many centuries a destination of pilgrims and visitors of Muslims and Christians from all over the world. Unfortunately, Palestine after the 1948 War fell under the Israeli Occupation and was exposed to many catastrophes up until this time; all this led to the instability and the decrease in the number of tourists to Palestine; which had become a dangerous area which reduced the flow of tourism in general. At the same time, came the peace negotiations between the PLO (Palestinian liberation organization) and Israel in Oslo which was signed in Washington in 1993. In this period there was an economic recovery and tourism in the Palestinian Territories, especially in the West Bank and Gaza Strip started to once again flourish. The Primary purpose of this paper is to show the significance of the religious tourism in Palestine and influence of conflict on Palestinian tourism; also indicated which factors impacts on Palestinian tourism as well.

    Palestinian Presidential Committee For The Restoration of the Nativity Church Bethlehem September 2015 Church History The Church of the Nativity is one of the first Christian Churches, built in the place where Jesus Christ was born. It marks the beginning of Christianity and is one of the holiest spots. The original basilica church was commissioned by Emperor Constantine in 327 and completed in 339 A.D. The Church was destroyed by the Samaritans in the 6th century and then re-built in the same century during the reign of Justinian with further alterations. Since medieval times the Church developed into a complex of religious buildings in an extraordinary architectural assemble run by the Greek Orthodox Church, the Custody of Holy Land and the Armenian Church, all under the provisions of the Status Quo of the Holy Places as agreed upon by the treaty of Berlin (1878). Program Background The Presidential Committee for the Restoration of the Nativity Church was established in 2009 with the blessing of the three churches and a mandate to carry out a scientific restoration program of the Holy Church. An international bid for the assessment study and the establishment of the restoration program was launched in August 2009, with bids received in December 2009. The contract was awarded in June 2010 to an international consortium of Italian Universities and Research Centers (University of Ferrara, Siena, Roma-La Sapienza, Naples, CNR Ivalsa) led by CFR-Italy and supported locally by Community Development Group (CDG)-Bethlehem. The studies commenced late September 2010 with the final studies / report including the conservation plan submitted in February 2011.
