The Canadian Production sector is the largest of the three key sectors. It can be further subdivided into two sub-sectors: Television Production and Theatrical Production. Canadian Production is comprised of television programs and films made largely by independent production companies, although it also includes television programs made by production companies affiliated with Canadian broadcasters. All of the television programs and films in the Canadian Production sector are certified as Canadian content by the Canadian Audio-Visual Certification Office (CAVCO) or the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). 2. The Foreign Location and Service Production sector is the second-largest segment and is largely comprised of feature films and television programs filmed in Canada by foreign producers or by Canadian service producers on behalf of foreign producers. The majority of foreign location and service production is made by producers based in the United States; however, approximately 10% to 15% of the production activity in this sector is made by Canadian producers. 3. The Broadcaster In-House Production sector includes television programs made by Canadian television broadcasters in their own facilities, and is comprised primarily of news, sports and current affairs programming. In 2008/09, "lm and television production in Canada decreased to just under $4.9 billion. In 2009/10, the total volume of production climbed back over $4.9 billion – 5% below the peak reached in 2007/08. Overall, the total volume of film and television production in Canada increased by $29 million, or 0.6%, between 2008/09 and 2009/10. #e increase in total production volume can be attributed back to the Canadian theatrical sub-sector and the Foreign Location and Service Production (FLS) sector. Production volume in the Canadian theatrical sub-sector was up by $91 million due to a higher number of high-budget English-language feature "lms.     Canadian humour Canadian humour is an integral part of the Canadian Identity. There are several traditions in Canadian humour in both English and French. While these traditions are distinct and at times very different, there are common themes that relate to Canadians' shared history and geopolitical situation in North America and the world. Various trends can be noted in Canadian comedy. One thread is the portrayal of a "typical" Canadian family in an on-going radio or television series. Examples include La famille Plouffe, with its mix of drama, humour, politics and religion and sitcoms such as King of Kensington and La Petite Vie. Another major thread tends to be political and cultural satire: television shows such as CODCO, Royal Canadian Air Farce, La Fin du monde est à 7 heures and This Hour Has 22 Minutes, monologuists such as Yvon Deschamps and Rick Mercer and writers, including Michel Tremblay, Will Ferguson and Eric Nicol draw their inspiration from Canadian and Québécois society and politics. Another trend revels in absurdity, demonstrated by television series like The Kids in the Hall and The Frantics, and musician-comedians such as The Arrogant Worms, Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie and Bowser and Blue. Satire is arguably the primary characteristic of Canadian humour, evident in each of these threads, and uniting various genres and regional cultural differences. Humber College in Toronto and the École nationale de l'humour in Montreal offer post-secondary programmes in comedy writing and performance. Montreal is also home to the bilingual (English and French) Just For Laughs festival and to the Just for Laughs museum, a bilingual, international museum of comedy.
